Nice review of my favorite new series this year. I was afraid that this was doomed to obscurity, but it's gotten some good press, almost all of it very positive (and the mediocre review came from IGN manga, which is proboboly the worst manga review site I've seen on the net anyways.) I'm hoping Viz will use the oversized format again this year, hopefully for something like Witches (same magazine, same number of volumes, same standard of exellence).
As for the status of new Sexy Voice, Shogakukuan claimed that Kuroda was having health issues and put the series on hold, but since then he has done works for his old publisher Kodansha. I'm guessing there was some kind of fallout between them, which unfortunatally means that we proboboly won't see anymore of Sexy Voice unless he has a change of heart.

Funny that you brought it up, because IGN need Manga review. Their current review are like noobie anime fan that would consider something like Love Hina and Death Note to be the best manga they read. And they even listed Love Hina as the 4th best Shoujo manga ever.

What's wrong with Love Hina? I've read hundreds of manga and it's still the best romance series I've read. Hmm...my desire to recieve a paycheck is overwhelmed by my unwillingness to be associated with the total idiots at IGN. Pass.

Eh, I'm not going to get into an argument about Love Hina. If you love it, great. Let's just say there are many people who feel that it's repetative and overly cliched, among other things.
To the writer's credit, she did give a suprisingly good argument to why Love Hina could be considered shojo, but at the end of the day it shonen no matter what you say, and shouldn't have been on that list. I just think most of the writers have poor taste; saying Oh My Goddess! sucks while giving the abismal Girls Bravo a great review, claiming Nana is a below average shojo title. Really, I can see how some people have diffrent tastes, but really, Girls Bravo?

IGN written a lot of good Comic column though, so at least the comic writers are very knowledgably at what they do.

As for Love Hina (and it's little cousin Negima) don't even get me started on the idiotic one-dimensional characters, lacklust story and recycle jokes done a million times. It's a decent average title though, nothing exceptional. Just like DBZ, it does impress a lot of new reader. Arrow

Pickup Sexy Voice and Robo instead Wink

I'm not really into most of the comics they review, but the Ultimate Bookshelf was suprisingly exellent, with tons of great indie books that I thought I'd never see on a mainstream comicbook list. I really don't bother with their reviews most of the time though, as they just seem to go on and on about Vertigo titles (I like Vertigo as much as the next guy, but the label's seen better times) or kiss Brian Michael Bendis' ass. But I still check it out because, as you said, their well written and give a diffrent opinion.

I was pleasantly surprised by the high "Art" score awarded to Sexy Voice and Robo. I absolutely love the art, myself, but I thought that maybe the thick brush strokes, loose drawings and heavy contrast between white and dark would turn most people off. I'm happy to see that I've simply mis-judged manga fans' tastes.

I hope this favorable review, along with the many others, will urge people to pick this title up, despite the (relatively) high price. Sexy Voice and Robo, along with the ridiculously hard to find Passion Fruit series, are easily the most interesting manga I read in 2005.

Their Ultimate Bookshelf article was pretty impressive for comic fans and it got me interested in a lot of title. Sadly, their manga selection for Ultimate Bookshelf article came down to the long-time comic favorites: Blade of the Immortal and Lone Wolf & Cub which are great manga titles but typical choice and I wouldn't fault them if they didn't insertd Cowboy Bebop Manga Boxset out of no where.

*Run off to put together his own "Building the Ultimate Manga Bookshelf"
