No offense ann.com staff, but I'm beginning to wonder if you guys are getting some extra cheese from funimation to push that FMA movie or just the franchise in general. There's barely anything else to mention on your front page for a while now...
It's a good movie and all, but it's kinda a bit much hype.
Dissapointing behaviour of a otherwise respectable quality site. Confused

Maybe it's because it's an awesome movie that all anime fans need to see. Deal with it.

Would you rather announce useless stuff like how random manga-ka Shinji Takahara sprained his wrist while drawing a manga no one's ever heard of and will not be able to draw for two months? I hate when they announce that like the whole anime community is supposed to care or something.

Except those who care about other aspects of FMA than "waah, Ed and Al should be together, forever and ever and ever!!!"

I didn't start the movie on a positive note (bringing in the Thule Society and all that was a rather tasteless idea, imo, though at least they didn't touch the theme I'd been afraid they'd mess with), but when I was done with it I hated it. I hated the plot, I hated the movie-only characters, I hated that the actual FMA characters got little to no role to play, but what I hated most was what the movie did to Al's character and the brothers' relationship to each other and other people. It's like a long and very expensive fanfic for Ed x Al fans.

So yeah, I'd rather read about obscure mangaka spraining their wrists. I'm trying so hard to forget I saw that damn movie, I'd rather not be reminded of it everytime I glance at the news here.

Not all anime fans need to see it, it's not for everyone.
Sounds like a hollywood ad for yet another "must see movie of the century". I'm an anime fan, but found this movie average, and I know people who are also anime fans who found it downright dissapointing. So in other words, what you're saying is because there's no other news of vallue this movie needs to be pushed and pushed and pushed?

I think most of you are missing the real point and news items here. An anime company is embracing MySpace and putting EXCLUSIVE content there. Also behind the scenes content (interviews with voice cast) will be posted on the main site. The news item is not so much about the FMA movie but how the content is being handled.

Biggest WORD EVER. I don't mind the posting of news about it, but god I agree on the utter craptasticness of it. Honestly, I think it's regarded as good not because it's good, but because it's FMA.

And you totally pinpointed all the things that bugged me most about it. On a superficial note, I must also gripe about the fact that Al had a mullet.

It's to be expected. FMA is ridiculously popular, and no matter how many people say, "Yeah, I really liked the series too, but it was still a horrid movie," there's a lot of anticipation building up, and people are still going to want to see it for themselves and hear all the news about whatever teasers Funi's releasing for it.

But, uhhh, MySpace and YouTube as professional mediums of communication? I guess that's one way of reaching their target audience, but at what cost to their dignity?

I don't think so. I'm not a fan of myspace especially, but there are plenty of mainstream Hollywood studios that have utilized it as a promotion device.

Anyway, despite my disdain for the movie, I'd totally go see it if it were in my area. I think it's awful, but I love Funimation and I think their dub for this series is fantastic, so I'd support it if I could.

I do find it rather distressing that things like movies are increasingly being promoted on an utter cesspool like Myspace, but given the large audience to be reached, it unfortunately makes sense.

As for the movie itself: As a fan of the series (I can comfortably say that it's one of the best series I've seen), I enjoyed the movie almost as much as the series itself. Maybe my expectations were different from others', but I didn't expect a two hour movie to carry the same emotional weight as a 25-odd hour series, even with an insanely large budget. I can see small elements of mufurc's accusations of Ed x Al fanservice, but it seemed so minute to me that even if they're true it didn't bother me much.

In fact, the thing that made me the most uncomfortable was what I often run into when watching an an anime movie based on a series: The disconnect created by the increased budget that results in more ornate character designs and animation, and a somewhat forced "epic" feel to it.

Man, you people will complain about literally anything.

Yes there's been a lot of news about the FMA movie because there's a lot of news about the FMA movie right now. It has nothing to do with us getting "paid extra" or whatever other conspiracy theories you want to cook up.

Sheesh.

"I didn't like the movie, so stop printing news about it!".

Real reasonable approach you have there.

I think they have some pretty cool stuff available on the MySpace page. They've got avatars, wallpapers, galleries, a trailer, and other sweet stuff. If I had a MySpace, I'd definitely add it as a friend.

As for the movie being in the news alot, it's as Zac says. It's because there's alot of news about it. Funimation has put alot of work into advertising this movie I think, and I think their efforts will pay off.

I can't wait to preorder the Limited Edition release of the movie on RightStuf.com. There's so many extra goodies that come with the DVD that I'd be crazy to not buy it.

I see no "stop" in my sentence? Also, good job on taking my words out of context. I said I'd rather read news about something less significant than being reminded of that godawful movie, and I would, really. Nevertheleess, I didn't say ANN should stop writing about it.

Damn, people bitch and moan about everything. I wasn't too satisfied with the supposed conclusion to the FMA anime either but it wasn't a horrible movie I think. It wont stop me from buying the Limited Edition R1 release either. Go wallow in your negative attitude for all I care.

Then why don't you not read the news about it? Nobody's forcing yout to read it. Nobody forced you to post this topic. If you don't care about it, then don't read it. But for god's sake, ANN is THEIR site, not yours. They can post whatever the hell news they feel like on it. If you don't like it, you can always leave the site, you know.

So are these voice cast interviews with FUNi's VAs or the Japanese cast? Because I'll tell you right now, I'm not interested in hearing what the Japanese cast has to say, as I prefer the dub. Plus, I think Vic and Co. are more popular than Romi Paku and whoever the other seiyuu are.
