As much as I love Hyde, I really agree that they could have gotten a much better actor for Adam (who in the manga is blonde, blue eyed and British). I still like the movie, even if it does differ a lot from the manga - namely changing Hotaru and Miura's ages and cutting the other two kids out completely.

A good review, but one minor detail...Hotaru was played by Tomoka Kurokawa. I know this because she is the reason I watched this movie. She is an excellent young actress.

Ahhh, thank you for reminding me of this movie. I had planned on seeing it but...I completely forgot about it. ^^;; It's in my Netflix queue now.

As much as a HYDE-obsessed fan as moi, I have to say that HYDE's a much much better musician than an actor. Although his acting in Moon Child was noticibly much better. I was surprised they casted HYDE in this role.

As with the manga, I've read it, and i have to say that the manga was much better. But very different in mood, while the movie was very creepy-toned, the manga seemed more bright. (Ken Nikai's dark forest-y hell versus Ai Yazawa's bright void with endless gates)

Although the changes made to the movie made it, well more of a movie, i think the manga series took more of an emotional impact on me. Also i miss some of the minor characters like Sawamura and Kobara, but then again, (Sawamura in particular) are more comedy characters and that would ruin the mood.

Overall, I felt the movie seemed totally seperate from the manga, and i hope the original story of the manga could be turned into an anime.

Hmmm... Wonder if the English subtitles on the R1 release are the same as those on the R2 release? I suppose they would be. I found this to be a so-so movie. There was one point in the first third of the movie where I found it to be quite spooky though. Not bad. The end was five minutes longer than it had to be for my tastes. But Hyde's "performance"? Well, one time I quipped about "See Hyde sing, see Hyde pout, see Hyde try to act". Sorry. It's just that his performance was bad enough to put this one onto my "I've seen it but probably won't watch it too many times" list.
