NEWS: Funimation Changes UK Distributors

Formally known as Kiseki they were one of the biggest distributors of anime in the UK in the early 90's. They mainly had trashy hentai titles. The only family friendly title they eventually had was the R2 version of Star Blazers, the Quest for Iscandar. By 2002 they changed their company name to Revelation Films and dropped many of their "Japanese Animation", and until this rather snap announcement, they dropped well below the radar with only two titles listed. A leftover from the trashy hentai days called "Gigilo" and the StarBlazers Iscandar box set. When I tried to get Star Blazers from them they only had volume 2 and 3 of the DVD's as the box set wasn't available then, so I had to import it R1 instead. We can only hope that they will be as good as MVM was at getting FUNimations R2 catalogue out to us, maybe even better as so-far this is their only anime license with a large catalogue.

I'm just hoping that they will manage to keep to something approaching the same standard MVM did.

I'm not going to be buying anything released by them until i've heard the reviews though, as i've seen their Gunbuster release, and been bitten by other "new" or "returning" U.K. Anime distributors.

A sad day for MV is all I can say. I hope they release something better than the SOL Bianca DVD (admittedly the extras on the disc were decent, but the video was awful)

Ah Kieski, there's a name i didn't think i'd ever hear again/

They distributed in both Australia and the United Kingdom. They had an awesome catalogue of old school titles such as Gunbuster, Macross : Do You Remember Love, Sol Bianca, Black Magic M66, Cockpit and many more.

However they were notorious for their terrible dvd transfers (vhs to dvd dump). I wonder if they've changed at all.

We shall see. Someone here in the UK has already e-mailed them and the response was that they will distribute the same DVD's that FUNi distribute in the US only in R2. So that means we will be getting the booklet that comes with the FMA series too. Something MVM wasn't offering allegedly.

That is not quite what was said. In a response to the first e-mail asking what and when their titles would become available they said that they would be "selling what FUNimation provided them", which as well as being very vague is pretty much what MVM did. In response to another e-mail specifically asking about the booklets they only said that "the movie will ship with a 60-page booklet" and nothing was said about the individual volumes. They have not, to my knowledge, committed to releasing any of the booklets with any future releases other than the movie.
