Character depth of the other? Are we talking about the same title? When did bipolar disorder as the backdrop of a Love Hina-turned-horror-flick become a study in character complexity? I must have missed all of that with all the running around naked, peeing, and spouting nyu nyu like an idiot until Kanbe or Okamoto decides that we need more red splatter. I apologize if I'm being dense here but I just didn't detect a hint of sarcasm in the comparison of areas wherein Tokko was lacking. It's like saying how 2 Live Crew's famous hit lacked the harmonic depth of Salt n Peppa's own famous hit. I'm thinking, "what"? Or are we speaking in relative terms, and Tokko is really that bad that it actually inducts character depth upon the other title by comparison?

The theme song is so obnoxious. Unfortunately when you hit the forward button it skips to the next episode since there are no chapter breaks. I'm a bit surprised at the decent review this series got on Shelf Life. I ordered the first two DVDs in August, and would feel a little lame canceling the second volume especially when it only cost $13.49.

Sounds like a show for me!

How far did you get in Elfen Lied? There was tons of character development later on. Granted, none of it was in the main character (I still don't understand how such a flat character was better developed and interesting in flash backs) or Nyu(Lucy is another matter)...

My sentiments exactly. I had a hard time taking the rest of the review seriously after being told that it lacks the "character depth" of Elfen Lied. It must be pretty obscenely lacking in that department to the point where the characters are literally just cardboard cutouts to pull that off.

that's pretty hilarious coming from someone sporting a Naruto avatar Laughing

But seriously, that first post tells me that the person posting hasn't watched past the first 1-2 episodes of Elfen Leid since there is more character depth given in that 13 episode series than there is given in any long-running shonen that I've bothered to deal with.

Onto to Tokko:

For the most part, I agree with this review; it's really nothing great in the story and character department. However, going into it with the expectation of seeing blood and some bad-ass babes spilling it, I thought it was cool. I just wish that this series was being released by anyone other than Manga Entertainment, so that we could have consistent release dates and not have to wait 3+ months between volumes. Mad

Oh I've watched the whole series alright. I could write a comprehensive analysis of the title here. But rather than doing something redundant, I'll point you to my review of the 1st R1 volume DVD on Amazon, which is really my series review based on having watched all of it.

But to say that this 13-ep series has more character development than any long-running shounen series one has dealt with suggests that series like Berserk, RK, NGE, KOR, Gundam, and Macross to name a few have been missed.

Anyone know if there's going to be an artbox released for this series? It sounds entertaining to me, the plot sounds okay and copious violence can be quite enjoyable in the right setting, so all that leaves is packaging. The English dub's description seems good. (Actually it seems better than the grade would indicate but whatever.)

Although to be honest, the mere presence of a pink haired female might be enough to get me to buy this.

“what is the utility of tight leather pants and Superbra cleavage in fighting demons?”
I love this question. It sounds like something from the super hero final exam.

"No, Equality Girl, the answer is not to objectify the heroine. The correct answer is to distract the demon's attention and protect the legs from scrapes."

So wait, was this thread about Elfen Lied or Tokko?

But judging by the review and other descriptions I've read, Tokko seems like a series tailor-made for Manga Entertainment, considering its emphasis on blood-ang-guts horror.

Well I watched the firs tDVD, and I partly agree with the review. What annoyed me was the main character's sister and their weird relationship, also the girl with blonde hair and no bra - you're fighting demons, what the heck?

Other than that, the horror aspects were great, the monsters are savage, I loved that part, so I'll go on with the series. Plus, hey, on a 5 eps DVD, it's hard to have a lot of character development.
