Okay, I understand that Casey thinks that this is a josei title that can cross demographic lines to appeal to people who normally enjoy shonen manga...what I don't understand is whether or not she thinks it might also appeal to someone who generally enjoys josei stuff but heartily dislikes most generic shonen manga?

Quoted for truth. I never imagined that bread baking could be so fun and entertaining. An absolutely "mare-velous" series. As for Walkin' Butterfly; the cover art caught my eye when I first saw it, but I was hesitant to buy since I don't normally read josei. [I have seen (and LOVED) the first season of Honey and Clover, though]. That said, this review has convinced me to give Walkin' Butterfly a look. |

Very interesting. I always liked anime/manga about fashion (or related to fashion), so I'm definitely reading this.

just wanted to say I followed your orders and ran and got a copy
only thing I can add is, the art(at least to me) got quite a bit better going from the first volume to the second. In the first, it was kinda....messy....and I had trouble figuring out what was going on, sometimes. |

I'm quite surprised by this review. I picked up volume one ages ago when it came out. I enjoyed it. I love the light art style, but I didn't think that it was as wonderful as the review made it out to be. I actually thought that it was rather contrived and unoriginal. I still haven't even gotten around to picking up the second volume. I plan to eventually, as I did like it, but not nearly enough to push it to the top of my list. Oh, well. I guess this at least motivates me to reread the first volume to remind myself what all the fuss was about.
To Moomin: I LOVE Josei. And I HATE most really generic shonen manga. Take that as you will. |

Thanks. I think we have fairly similar tastes in manga so I guess I'll give it a go but not expect too much from it. By the way, if you haven't already read it, get hold of a copy of Love Song by Keiko Nishi while it can still be found for sensible money - I'm 99% certain you'll love it. |

Got to agree with the reviewer. I read a lot of shounen and seinen (wish there were more) and I dislike a lot of josei titles. I was surprised how much I liked this. I was expecting to be put off by the fashion aspect of it, but it's not overwhelming.

I have to say that the only thing I disliked about the first volume was that it was WAY too short - only two chapters + omake. I wasn't completely sold on it, but I picked up the second volume to give it a fairer chance, and it is indeed quite good. I'd recommend anyone looking to try it read the first two instead of just the first one (volume 3 is out too, but I haven't read it yet...but I want to).
I think something was wrong with the volume 1 I purchased too, as there is a page that says "turn to the back for an interview with Chihiro Tamaki!", but there is nothing but a page of adverts...so yeah, be aware if that. The Aurora Publishing site says that this volume is 154 pages, but my copy is more like 140 (with the main story ending at page 134). Speaking of which, this review is kind of like...a year late, as this book came out nearly a year ago (August 2007). Normally ANN is pretty up-to-date...but as long as this series gets more press, any news is good news. |

Ironically, I just ordered this from my B&N the other day. One of the last 2 in the warehouse. I just finished reading Four Shojo Stories, too, and found I was fond of her artwork. I just need to track down A, A' now.... |

I'd like to give Four Shojo Stories a go (if only for the two stories that aren't shojo at all) but second hand copies go for the equivelant of about $75 over here and I'm not willing to pay that for two short stories. A, A', on the other hand, I just found on Amazon.co.uk for £0.33 - thanks for the tip! |
