The manga was so bad that it carried over to the spelling in the review. 
Anyways, even though I've only watch one episode of the anime, just by looking at the cover and the art style, it's somewhat noticeable that this adaptation is sub-par. I guess I'll just look forward to finishing the anime and reading the novels. |

This is a terrible review. I am no longer sure that Miss Casey actually knows how to speak English and certainly is an amateur when it comes to writing if nothing else. I normally wouldn't comment but the repeated use of "wont" is not clever and is kind of... well, stupid. Even then certain parts of the review do no make much sense grammatically "...Kyon, and this monologue, which appears to have been faithfully adapted from the original novels' prose is tortured, convoluted twat." Is something wrong with me for not being able to understand gibberish? I think "A personal pet peeve is the adjective+noun+long-dependent-clause as subject of a sentence" was simply a ploy written into the review to trick us all into thinking she knows sentence structure. I don't mean to be a dick, I don't even like Haruhi but this was just...well to put it obtusely it "Makes the reader wont to think the writer was a dumdum."

*searches* Obviously, the education in the U.S. isn't up to par.  I'll refrain from criticizing people about my 2nd language. Though, seriously, I've never heard someone use that word before. I truly blame the Puerto Rican educational system....

It is just a pretentious word to use. She might as well have just said "The entire series is just shallow and pedantic. Yes, shallow and pedantic."

Well now I'm VERY glad I decided to wait for the novels to come out.
Of course, I find that manga adaptations generally disappoint. For example, Cowboy Bebop is my favorite anime, but its manga adaptation was AWFUL.

Hnn, what's the old saying? Point a finger and three point right back at you? Please run this review past a competent editor. The grammatical errors are absolutely ridiculous and some of the sentences just don't make sense. |

Personally,I found this review a bit harsh. I read the manga when it was first released thorugh scanlations and I like it quite a bit (although I admit I was a bit dissapointed). The anime is far,far superior. However, even the anime can't beat the original novels, which I LOOOOOOVE to death
As a hardcore Haruhiist I am eagerly anticipating the English release of the novels, which I hope will be translated decently. |

Oh. That explains it. (and to finish my sentence..."Obnoxious.") Not to say I liked the manga in any way shape or form compared to the Light Novels or Anime, but while this author (...) accuses the GN of over-the-top translations/grammar, "academic" writing, and poor editing...this review suffers from most of the same problems. |

I edited it and didn't think it was any different from Casey's usual style. I realize people don't like big words nor do they like writing that they perceive as "pretentious" (a claim that gets lobbied at us every single time we publish anything that has words with more than 3 syllables that aren't Japanese) but Casey has her particular style and it reads fine to me. I missed a couple of small things on my second read-through, though. So I fixed those. Otherwise the lot of you can kindly tuck your Casey-hatin' away and discuss the novel itself. |

oh god, people here are still butthurt about Casey's review of Clanned? got GET OVER IT. no need to spam this thread with your hatred of somebody who didn't like what you did.
overall this review is to be expected, most anime adapted into manga generally suck(or in this case novel into anime into manga). |

A bad hangover sans the high. That is probably the best description I've ever heard.
And, frankly, I agree. Haruhi is too hyped; frankly, if it weren't for the premiere opening, the dance at the ending credits, and the order in which the show premiered, it probably wouldn't have garnered as much rep as it did. Granted, I liked the story, but not enough to break into dance every minute at a convention. I just happen to be a sucker for psychobabble (thank you f***ing wikipedia). I really enjoyed the Haruhi anime (I somehow missed the hype entirely; didn't even hear about it until the AMV VCAs), and I'd love to read the original novels, but... I'm trying hard, but can anyone think of a manga adaptation of an anime (rather than the other way around) that's really any good?
