While I found the manga to be more to my liking, I did enjoy the Anime version as well. I'm glad to see it's getting good reviews like this, as I believe it deserves the attention. I'm just not sure if I want to buy it individually or in box sets...

Nice to see Key's review is finally up. Anime smile

The part that I most agree with on the review was FUNi's careless inclusion of spoilers in the extras. Evil or Very Mad But I have to give them props for not screwing up the video quality. Razz

I've read the first 3 volumes of the Claymore manga, but I have the rest on hold until I finish the anime series. I burned through the first 5 episodes in English and now I'm doing the same with the Japanese track.

I found the Claymore music similar to that of the Hellsing Ultimate. It takes a while to get used to, but it's surprisingly fitting after a while.

Can't wait for volume 2. Very Happy

I'm really interested in this series, but my remaining anime DVD budget is already reserved for other series this year. I'll probably try to get the artbox early next year.

Funimation has shifted mostly to releasing box sets of series over the course of the year, but this is one of the few titles they have felt confident enough in to release in individual-volume format.
I thought it was more of a licensing issue preventing them from doing season set releases with some of their titles, such as this one. I can't imagine them being not-so-confident about Ouran, for instance.

I'm still going to wait on a boxset for this, unless I'm confident I can buy every single volume for less than $10 each.

I got Claymore the day it came out from Netflix, and I was impressed enough to want to buy the artbox. Awesome animation and a story that has the potential to get even more engaging, especially after episode 5.

This one is definitely going on the "to buy" list. I'm also glad it's getting good reviews, because it deserves them.

There is one tiny continuity error on the first disk. In the third episode spoiler[Clair is told that her natural eye color will return when she takes her pillsand they turned brown]. In episode 5 spoiler[When they show Clair as a child her eyes are green.]
Otherwise I have to agree that this is a great series and compares very faovrably to its manga counterpart.

However, this booklet contains numerous and sometimes massive spoilers for later in the series and so is only recommended for perusal by those who have already seen the series; especially do not flip past page 5 until you have at least seen episode 8.

Thank you very, very much for this.

Mine should be at my door tomorrow. Smile

Thanks for the warning, Key. I remember how irritated I was to find spoilers in some of the FMP:TSR and Witchblade extras, so I'm glad I won't have to have that experience with Claymore again.

Still well over a month 'til I have my copy, but I'm looking forward to watching it.

oh good this is as good as it looked. I was thinking of picking up the manga but since people usually rave about the anime I think I'll pick this up. I want to get the artbox because it's so nice but I wanted to see if I was going to stick with the series first so I don't know which one to buy.

I one fault I have with Claymore is the end of the series. I guess if it were an original work it'd be fine, but just knowing the manga takes a different turn kinda leaves you feeling left out. You'll see the reviews for the latter DVDs that the scores will get lower because of how it turns out. The one positive is that it was a possible route that the mangaka was considering taking the story. Other than that, the first 19-20 episodes are great.

they rave about the anime? but usually in a negative sense - ok, I guess you can't rave negativelly ^^; but the anime is inferior to the manga, unfortunately.

I agree that the anime starts out quite good, the first episodes are even better than in the manga. Later on however that changes imho, fighting scenes get worse and I better shouldn't get started on the story *cough* Will be looking forward to the reviews though =)

I bought the artbook + vol 1 only because it looked so good, probably I won't be buying the rest though.

Too bad they didn't use this chance to finally correct "Rubel"'s name in the english speaking countries Rolling Eyes

what do you mean by that? I don't think that is true at all. In the manga there have been hints on which way the story was going to develop very early, and all those hints have been carefully removed in the anime, because they knew from the very beginning that they were going to end things differently.

Actually, you're probably not going to see that, as I'm not one of the people who thinks the anime ending is bad, or deplorable just for deviating from the manga. I actually very much liked it and think the entire series decidedly builds specifically towards that ending, given the way the anime slants things - and yes, I am reading the manga, too.

But that's for far in the future. For now we should only be talking about the first few episodes.

That would be ridiculous of course. But I don't think those people are a majority anyway, at least I never talked to anyone who has that opinion. Personally I dislike the anime ending because imho it is really bad and makes no sense at all nor is it really something one could consider an "ending" - and I talked to many other people who disliked the ending without even knowing the manga (and of course, they'll never pick up the manga now, because they believe it to be as bad as the anime v.v )

But yea, we'll discuss that ... mmh, I have no idea when the last volume will be out, maybe in about a year I guess.

I tried to word what I was saying in the previous post carefully, but apparently it's still being misinterpreted.

I don't think the ending is bad just because it doesn't follow the manga (although some in this forum do), and I don't think the ending is bad, period. I think it absolutely makes sense within the context of the entire series and is totally the end the series had to take.

If you've seen the whole series, you can see my discussion points on this issue in the Claymore thread in the Anime forum around the late 40s/early 50s in page count, so I won't discuss the "why" of my comments more here until we get to the appropriate volume. I will have a lot to say about it at that time, though, and my comments will probably go against what seems to be general sentiment about the later stages of the series. (But then, I also liked the ending of Mahoromatic, too, which isn't typical, either.)
