Already casted my votes the day after the polls opened.
Who do you guys think will win the Overseas Award this year? I'm hoping Kamiya Hiroshi (Zetsubou sensei, Tieria, Natsume, Araragi) and think he has a very good chance. Other contenders I think are Kakihara Tetsuya (Simon) and Konishi Katsuyuki (Simon). Gurren Lagann was really popular, so I wouldn't surprise if either of them wins, but if we go by how many well-known characters were portrayed, I'd say Kamiya has the upper hand and deserves to win. (Of course I am also highly biased.) |

For which, the general voting or overseas voting? For the general voting, the smaller box is for the seiyuu's name (one person per category) and the bigger box is for a list of their roles. For overseas voting, you can vote for ONE person, male or female. They don't have different categories for male and female for this one, though I think they should. |

Yeah, it is kinda confusing since it says to only pick one, but they keep using the word "and" instead of "or" which makes it sound like one of each instead.
They also said to list some examples of roles they played, but there's no section labeled for that so i guess that's supposed to go in the comment box? They probably should have also made it clear that this was voice Japanese actors only. I wonder how many votes Johnny Yong Bosch is going to get. 
I ended up voting for Hiro Shimono. I enjoyed his work in Basquash, Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari, and Kannagi this year. Emerje |

Ooh, Shimono! I liked him as Dan as well. (Though as a whole, Basquash! was average imo.) Unfortunately Shimono's not very known though so I don't think his chances of winning are terribly high.
That's the thing... This will most likely be a contest of who voices the most popular character. I'm glad to see you are voting for someone whose performance you enjoyed. Though I voted for Kamiya who happens to voice many popular characters, I truly believe he's one of the most talented seiyuu out there. He definitely is one of the most hard-working. (He didn't have a single day off in I believe it was July.) He's also an incredibly funny and nice guy. I love hearing him and Ono Daisuke on the radio show Dear Girl ~Stories~ every week. They're hilarious! (Somehow, I think I will be disappointed if Hirano Aya wins. She's EVERYWHERE, and not in a very good way. When I was in Japan over the summer, she was in every magazine, her PV was playing every 10 minutes on the big screen at UDX, and Haruhi was plastered all over the place. I don't deny her talent but yeah.......) The Suwabe fangirl in me LOVES your icon, btw! |

She's not that talented or highly sought after as far as a voice actress at all really, but because she managed to land the voice of Haruhi and use the character's popularity as a springboard to idol status which let's her walk the circuit of the popular otaku oriented variety shows, magazines and most importantly, J-Pop where she took another leap. She got there, but it's kind of hard not to feel she skipped ahead of where her current station would normally be as a result of her landing the right role at the right time. Perfectly normal and she won't be the first or the last to do it either. As for the reason why she has such a blanket effect, it's because she's got the media and advertising capability of Kadokawa Shoten and Lantis behind her, two infamously aggressive groups when it comes to advertising their brand through any medium reasonably (and sometimes unreasonably) possible. Aya Hirano is pretty much like a brand too them (don't believe me, the girl even has her own unique set of trading cards with pictures of her on them for crying out loud), and I've even used the nickname "Kadokawa's little darling" too refer to her Disney Divaesque status with them. TL;DR: It's because she's the Japanese equivalent of a Miley Cyrus (scaled down obviously) with about the same level of talent in all the things she does for Kadokawa and Lantis in order to promote their brands. |

I have to be honest, I haven't watched a lot of the newer anime. I voted for Romi Paku, for her continuing to be an excellent voice for Edward Elric. In Brotherhood, especially, she's been really intense. She's become a favorite voice talent of mine.

Ono Daisuke people. I love his voicing work and how he 70% of the time always lands the role of some fabulous male character, its pretty funny really. Though, it was a difficult decision for me between him and Yoshino Hiroyuki.

I voted for Megumi Hayashibara. She's always played such a wide range of characters. Variety is something that some other people are going out of their way to mention that their votes don't have, and that ability is something I think is important and impressive.

I also don't care much for her voice, but being a seiyuu fan, I don't want to bash anyone. I'm aware of what her father does to get her name out and everything so that puts me off a bit. @Sarukah OnoD is awesome! I'm digging him as Eugene in Hanasakeru Seishounen. (Can't stand Kajika though.) Yocchin would also be an excellent choice. Seeing him switch between Allelujah and Hallelujah is amazing. @the_windcaster I think it helps when they are casted as characters that can SHOW that ability. For example, I think lately Fukuyama Jun has been getting similar roles, or at least roles that mostly employ his deep voice. After Lelouch, I didn't find his deep voice to be too great. (I was also put off after finding out he sometimes smokes though so that may have something to do with it.) I like when he has roles like Grell. I'm happy that Kamiya has a lot of variety in his roles. Natsume, Tieria, Itoshiki sensei, Araragi kun... They all use a different tone. |

I voted for Atsushi Abe with his stellar performance as Akiyuki in Xam'd. For female, Ayahi TAKAGAKI was chosen for her roles of Ein in Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom and Nina in Chrome Shelled Regios.

Same here. I think she really deserves it, so I voted for her. There are so many new, inexperienced seiyuu being used in anime now... |

I'll vote for Norio Wakamoto. He did a superb job as "Narrator" in Hayate. Without him, the show wouldn't be so fun.
