As much of a xxxHolic/Tsubasa fan as I am, I'd agree with everything said in this column about that volume. Despite the fact that I read both series, it's STILL hard for me to follow everything...

Wow, when I saw the Fairy Tale cover, I honestly thought it was a volume of One Piece. Also, Real looks like its right up my alley......if I didn't live 4 hours away from the nearest comic shop Sad .

Yep. Strenuous brain exercise following exactly what's going on plot-wise, never mind the layers of metaphor.

Nevertheless, I can't wait to hurt something reading volume 14. I didn't think it would be out so fast Very Happy

Yep ... not only is the art style exactly the same, but they don't even try to hide it by at least designing the covers differently xD It doesn't help that Fairy Tale so far has really nothing to set itself apart from other generic shonen.

I dropped the Fairy Tale Manga after 30 chapters or so, because it was just so unbearably childish and stereotype ... now I hope the anime might be a bit better, by getting the story going a bit lot faster x_x

wow, is it like cool to trash Fairy Tail now? i honestly don't think it's that bad. the storyline got really good as went on, in my opinion. the last few volumes have had a lot of interesting twists and turns.

I thought Fairy Tail was awesome to start, and fell into a pit of fail during the Luxus arc. Even though as it was stated that Fairy Tail pretty much runs on formula, I found it to be a formula for awesome. Plus Natsu's whole inability to handle transport had some nice funny moments.

Some alarm went off in my head during the last arc though. Luxus just didn't make a very good villain, and reading the line "HE'S STILL GETTING UP!?" made the taste of the whole manga go sour in my mouth.

Still enjoy it, just markedly less than before. That's my two cents.

Am I a horrible human being for enjoying seeing TokyoPop and its cliche 'Amerimanga' ideology fail yet again? Plus combine that with getting sick of all these damn CSI spin-offs and knock offs. As much as I like, say the goth chick on NCIS, I think the whole CSI crime show trend is sufficiently beaten into quite tender horse meat.

Plus it again just reminds me how forcing an artist to mimic some generic cooperate sanctioned and marketing driven 'manga style' stereotype is always doomed to fail. Forcing some cliche style on an artist doesn't work well, whether it be Jim Lee, Frank Miller, or 'big eyes and speed lines'. I'm hoping for this 'manga style' fad to die out so people can just draw. I've got tons of good looking manga that doesn't look like this 'manga style' people keep talking about. Call me when Tokyopop sells a 'manga style' that looks like Crying Freeman or Uzumaki or even freaking One Piece. You know, any style that isn't shoehorned into some stereotype of what manga looks like.

Meanwhile... speaking of One Piece.. wow. I am glad I didn't jump into Fairy Tale. I know the artist trained under Oda, but wow is that following a bit too close. Plus it sounds sadly as cliche as I thought it might be. Too bad. Didn't he do Rave before this? That looked a bit more interesting and weird.

xxxHolic 14 comes after Tsubasa 25, which is out in January. Del Rey don't want you to know what's going on.

I've not read the review because I don't want spoiling. I've still got xxxHolic 13 sitting on my shelf, waiting for Tsubasa 23 to arrive (hopefully at some point this week; I've had it on preorder).

One Piece style has already become a stereotype ... it's being copied so much in Japan right now >.<

He didn't. Appearently both were inspired by Akira Toriyama (Dragonball) ... but to me that's not a convincing enough explanation for such a close resemblance. Both styles look way closer to each other than to Toriyama's and Fairy Tail looks closer to Oda's than Rave did back then.

Well, I have to say that CSI manga looks...

(puts on sunglasses)

...I got nothing. I don't watch that show as much as everyone else.

Let's be horrible human being together.

I wonder why Tokyopop made someone write/draw that CSI comic. Did they honestly think it was a good idea or were they desperate? On the other hand, if CSI fans blindly buy this stuff it may actually be very profitable and encourage them to make more crap...

Gajeel is Raditz with plate implants.

Apparently, the Phantom Lord arc of Fairy Tail is sadly considered to be the Zenith of the series considering that after it, all other arcs fall short.

Enjoy Fairy Tail while you can...because it gets worse.

Damn. Must be one of those comic book urban legends that floats around. Hmm. Yeah, I was trying to figure how it fit in with his rave work. Now that you mention it I remember hearing it debunked before.

Okay, the whole cliche joke and sunglasses shtick from Miami is one of the few good things I think to come from the spin offs. That and the previously mentioned goth chick from the JAG meets CSI acronym bastard child NCIS.

Also, people are forgetting the...

YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

Oh yeah, what Who song would this book bastardize cannibalize for its would be theme song? Love Ain't For Keeping? Pinball Wizard because it's like CSI jr?
