Hope, some of those descriptions really helped to sell the review. It certainly sparked my interest.

Though, I'll admit, I did have sort of a vague interest in this show beforehand. I'll just have to put it on my short list now. If anime doesn't bankrupt me this year, I'll be shocked.

Top-notch review.

Awesome review of a great show, and now I have to make the usual recommendation to everyone: Read the manga as well! The anime follows the manga almost exactly for most of it's run, which ought to have made it more worthwhile (albeit less well-paced in it's very nature) but there is a very good reason to read the manga, which is that the anime makes up it's own ending very suddenly at the end of it's 50-episode run... RIGHT before the manga reaches it's highest peak of awesomeness and all of it's most amazing fights.

The manga may be a little difficult to get into at first because the artist's style changes drastically from 'decent' to 'excellent' over the course of the first few volumes, but if you push past that, you'll reach an incredibly stellar manga that, as a fan of the anime, will only make the experience that much more fulfilling.

I want to get soul eater so bad but if i buy it now i am certain a Blu Ray release will come. IDK if i should get it now or wait until it comes out on Blu Ray ( which i want it on this format).

I'd wait. Funimation has been pretty insistent about their plans to release as much anime as possible on blu-ray, and I can think of few better candidates for the treatment than Soul Eater.

You can hardly do better than Soul Eater.

Luckily, that's not the case.

I'm shocked, Penguintruth would buy something with Vic in it, 'cause Vic is in it as Spirit, but I think he sounds more like Tamaki in this than Ed, at least what I saw on the first episode anyway.

I do to, I also like her video reviews that I have seen. When the give away contest was in progress the show caught my interest, now after seeing this review, I added it to my Netflix queue. I would be happier if it wasn't in Very long wait status.

Actually, throughout that episode, I couldn't believe that was Vic. There was only one moment (the scene with the ladies) where he sounded Tamaki-esqe, but the rest of the time I could hardly tell that it was him (and still couldn't tell in Episode 4 or the Episode 7 clip posted on Funi's video portal).

Anyway, excellent review. ^^ I can't wait to start owning this series for myself. It'll be the first series I got into via AMVs. Anime hyper I know it's going to be worth it though; just by a few episodes I already fell in love with the dub (even though Black Star does sound very feminine).

I felt the same way. I heard a clip of Vic's voice acting in this somewhere (I think Amazon?) and I had to doublecheck on ANN if he was really playing Spirit because I could hardly tell it was him. This is very good news for me, since I was one of the people that criticized him for being too similar in some of his roles. I haven't ordered the first set (yet) but that positive voice acting already makes me want to buy it even more. Very Happy

Love this show--followed it on fansubs until FUNi's cease-and-desist purge. (I think this was actually the last show I followed on fansub--well, this an Nabari no Ou). So I'm looking forward to the latter two volumes so I can actually finish it.

Pity, really, that FUNi's marketing for this show has been so cringe-worthy. Seriously... their first trailers were just so repulsive. If I hadn't already seen a few (or 20-some) episodes I'd not be at all interested in this title.

Btw-the Japanese voice actors are awesome. For those who don't mind doing the reading, they're much better than the English dub.

Well, I don't hate him in everything. And from the clip I saw of this with him in it, he wasn't that bad.

Anyway, if I end up disliking the dub, they do make bilingual DVDs for a reason.

Yeah, the review was really long as is, so I didn't have time to mention it, but I feel I must point this out: this is the first time in his voice acting history I had a LOT of trouble recognizing Vic Mignogna. And I'm counting the bizarre, cartoony bit stuff he did in Kino's Journey and Super GALS. He can be "Man Gasping in Crowd" and you can always tell it's him, his voice is so distinctive.

But for most of the episode, it's REALLY hard to tell he's playing Spirit. He does an awesome job with it, too.

This review was a pleasure to read. Although I have not had a chance to see the dub yet, I agree with everything in the review. Soul Eater does tend to rely on typical shonen conventions, but it manages to be unique and really is a fun ride. Very Happy

This is one of those shows that really didn't agree with me early on, but I kept watching anyway. That said, I'm very glad that I stuck with it all the way through because eventually I found myself completely immersed in the series. Anyone who hasn't seen this series in its entirety yet is in for a real treat. Well, save for the ending, that is.

Head-scratching ending aside, I still hesitate to read the manga. I bought the first volume, but all the extra fan service was a big turn-off.
