Whats with the price increased in Yen Press' books? Kuroshitsuji #1 is $10.99, yet Kuroshitsuji #4 is $11.99? Did Yana Toboso go on a pissy fit again that we don't know about?

@ Sunday Silence:

It might be that volume 1 of Black Butler was released before all the increase in prices of manga volumes, which isn't limited to just yen press books. Like until maybe late 2009, I noticed the prices of previously released volumes from certain Shonen Jump titles were $7.99 and now whatever volumes released from 2010 onward are now $9.99.

Yeah, Viz had announced some where (don't know if they did in SJ Magazine or some where else) that their manga prices would be going up.

Congrats to FMA for still hanging on! But Bakuman is officially gone...? Shocked

Yen had a price increase sometime in 2010 after the first volume of Black Butler came out.

I didn't notice though, because you actually get the manga cheaper online due to the higher retail prices.

And I buy most of my manga at a comic shop that offers a discount (many tend to do this to compete with big chains). It's not that hard to minimize price increases affect on your budget.

Anyhoo, a dollar or two isn't too bad for many- the perpage price increase is still lower then when periodical comics get marked up. With everything going on at Borders and publishing in general, I imagine Yen's increased prices were them planning ahead to offset potential damage. With the titles it has on the best sellers list, it's not warding off fans either, really.

Glad to see Pandora Hearts make the list, it's a strange, wonderful little book. Need to get more of it sometime.

When Tokyo Pop launched their Manga Revolution, the price was $9.99 per volume & that was what, 2003? We've had a long ride.

I paid something like $18 for a volume of 3X3 Eyes from Dark Horse. (And then it was dropped because no one was buying it. Gee, I wonder why? The Jump line was what-$6 then?)
Actually...someone might try re-licensing it. It's one of the better zombie titles.

I don't think I noticed the price increase...now that's interesting.
TRSI has Vol 1,2,4,5 & 6 at $11.99 & Vol 3 at $10.99...So it looks like they're out of 1st run & have upped the price on later runs? Wow. I wonder if they re-printed, or just stickered the price on the cover...
I vaguely recall having to pay more for Vol 4, but that was because I put together a half-fast deal since there hadn't been a Yen Press sale at TRSI (One of the coupons-$6.90) & Vol 5 $7.23.
Ooo, they are playing us. Pandora Hearts, Nabari no Ou & Soul Eater are the higher price for future volumes, but the Korean stuff is still $6.60 so I assume $10.99 list. (I get Jack Frost, Time & Again, & Laon) Lost interest in Nabari. Might be a good time to drop it. Betrayal's been listed.
