well what do you know.. breaking away from the mold does do great things. Dammit some one needs to pick this up already for DVD releases state side...

also I do feel sorry for the writer on some level... having your ideas changed around etc but that's business for you.

They really dodged a bullet there. Slaptick erotic elements sounds like it was a really bad idea.

From crap to classic in an instant.

I can't believe there are still writers who sit around and say "how about making an erotic comedy?" while being 100% serious. Who even wants to see shows like that any more?

I really wished for some more romantic moments in AnoHana. But erotic? Naah.

I don't think an awkward youth drama with slapstick erotic moments, would of classified as an erotic comedy. It entirely depends on how many 'moments' were in the original script though Very Happy

I think it could of potentially been interesting myself, to see how they did it. The scripting of the end product of AnoHana was intelligent enough that I do not think it would be as banal as your expecting.

I may have actually preferred it without the ghost though, there was way too much 'why can you see her, but not me' drama going on.

Wowza, as it's already been said, there are so many of those ero-comdies these days and they're all constantly competing against each other, why would you even try to make another one? Really glad that all of that got cut out in the end.

I do, so long as it actually has nudity. The non-nudity erotic comedies are worthless, I'll agree. And by having nudity, I mean Ladies Versus Butlers levels at the very least. And don't tell me why don't I just watch hentai. Hentai have no budget and spoil the fun too early because there must be sex in every episode.

The AnoHana writer said her emotions were shaken after learning much of the story had to be changed in order for the anime's proposal to be accepted. During that phase, the two staffers suggested to Okada that the current story might have been too cliche and that focusing on friendship would be a better alternative.

My god, I could cut the irony with a knife. AnoHana absolutely tanked in its final third as far as I'm concerned, and in retrospect the entire premise was problematic to begin with. The drama was totally overwrought, and cliched as a result.

I would actually have preferred the original plot by the sounds of it, especially if they had hit the right balance between erotic and retrospective elements. Discovering sexuality, particularly the awkwardness that accompanies it where longtime friends are concerned, is a much more real subject to me, and I think could've resulted in a much more touching (no pun intended) story, claims of slapstick humor notwithstanding.

Noitamina really screwed the pooch on this one.

While I can see the sexual awakening romantic comedy working pretty well, I'm glad the show took the direction it ended up taking. I really loved this show a ton.

Maybe this explains why Anjo's nickname was Anaru. Embarassed Love AnoHana the way it ended up, but I am interested in how the story could've been.

**** the DVD release, give me the Blu-Ray! This gem deserves at least that much.

And yeah, this clearly turned out to be for the better. Had this show included such a theme....I wouldn't even want to think twice about this show. The supernatural/ghost aspect still bothers me, but heck it did a fantastic job utilizing it and weaving together a touching and compelling story.

I doubt this. If we could have a serious commentary on modern sexuality it might be worthwhile, but we can't unless we throw out "slapstick eroticism". Such things have been done to death and they weren't funny the first time around.

Hahahahah.

40k+ combined sales of the first volume says otherwise.

AnoHana is Noitamina's most successful show ever in terms of home-video sales.

That the writer got upset with the changes just shows how clueless and outright incompetent Anime writers can be. I agree with Keyl; we really dodged a bullet there.

This reminds me of Vision of Escaflowne, which was originally going to have Hitomi be a beautiful ditz before she was changed into one of the best female leads Anime has ever had.

Could actually explore some themes when you think about it.. crushing on a girl you knew as a child, but she's still the age of a child while you grew up, but you still have attraction to her, leading to conflicting feelings of guilt and lust.
