So just in 2011 Oda rakes another $19,600,000 US dollars just from ONE PIECE volumes alone!
Not counting anime, figures, games, etc based on its franchise or anything released outside of Japan.

I really, really, really dislike monopolies and corporotocracies but.. Oda deserves every bit of cash he has worked a lot and his story is very good. I hope one day ONE PIECE gets adapted into a Disney movie *Kinda like Pirates of the caribean* so that it finally gets the popularity ite deserves world-wide.

He only makes so much money because of the crazy sales of One Piece in its different mediums.

The only one(s) getting unfairly and filthy rich is the corporation/publisher(s) behind One Piece. The real creator should be getting paid fairly for his work and not the pocket money he us getting.

If there is someone REALLY "stealing" profits here is the publisher/corporation from the creator, if you don't agree someone reminds me the pocket money a creator is paid for his/her work please.

If you love it, why would you wish this on it?

A famous mangaka can get paid around 10 000-15 000 yen/page (he then has to pay his assistants).

As for the royalties based on the volumes sales, they're usually around 10%. With 38 million volumes sold (420 yen each) and a dollar worth 77.579519 yen, that gives you around 20 572 440 dollars in royalties (and you get an amount rather close to the one mentioned by the first user).

I wish Disney NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER gets their hands on this franchise.. NEVER EVER..... I can only imagine how much of it they would ruin, and change into rubbish..... heck I'd rather keep it a secret from the world if disney was the alternative.....

Amazing stats!
I wouldn't worry about a live-action movie anyway guys.
While One Piece is HUGE in Japan, it's not as big as the likes of Naruto and Bleach in the US and Europe.

OP is also a huge hit in Europe than blech,
and OP got Asia(having 70% anime fanbase in the world)
except in US,I think they don't want a protagonist aiming
for a title that have the most freedom in the world
I don't like live-action.

the top selling manga 2011 ranking, have a very huge gap,
like the past years rankings, and the gap is widening every year,
even DB or any other manga didn't/can't get/reach that kind of treatment

Japan is very capable of making their own live action movies. Cool
But a live action OP movie would be a complete disaster. The amount of special effects, CGI, and locations need to do one would be too much for a small country such as Japan. Plus, it would be extremely awkward seeing real-life actors trying to portray the main cast.

In my country (France), Naruto is way ahead with around 250 000/volume followed by One Piece and Fairy Tail which average around 80-90 000/volume. Bleach is below with 60 000/volume (those are circulation numbers dated from 2010).

Don'T speak or read France but I heard OP had a drastic rise in sales in France.
This is my source for it:
http://www.manga-news.com/index.php/actus/2011/05/17/One-Piece-n1-des-ventes-en-France
Could someone translate it please.

And are you sure that it is from 2010? I know one from 2009:

One Piece has indeed been increasing in recent years. But in the time frame given by the article, only one new volume of Naruto came out compared to 2 for One Piece. Circulation numbers per volume for 2011 should be out at the beginning of next year.

Well, short story:
Since january, One Piece is the bestseller in France, ahead Naruto.
Glénat (publisher of One Piece in France) release "Wanted", a collection of short stories.

In addition, they release Dead End (anime comics).

And they will release Strong World in 2012.
