This is everything this movie needs to do and it apparently does it. Now lets see what Zac can hurt you with next.

Do movies like this really have to try and accomodate newcomers? I mean, it's a sequel so if a watcher has never seen the previous installments it's not the movie's fault.

No, they don't. Why on earth would you watch a movie based on a series if you don't watch/like the series?

My thoughts exactly =/

Well it's good to see this reviewer at least seems to be familiar with K-ON so they can get the most out of the movie. I still remember the review for the Gundam 00 movie where the reviewer admited to only seeing part of the series and then critisizes the movie for not making sense.

I would like to see a comparison between this and Kyoani's previous movie, The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. For all intensive purposes, the Haruhi movie was at least a good movie (hears the haters already). i want to know if the K ON movie lived up to it. Was the animation just as vivid, have twists, huge character development leap. What was it that the K ON movie exceeded where the Haruhi movie lacked or failed and vice versa. You get my point. I chose these 2 movies for a versus match because I thought it would bring up interesting debates. Choose any other movie to compare to. I am probably asking this too early since almost no one here hasn't even come close to potentially get their hands on it.

It's not an interesting debate. The movies have completely different source material, genre, purpose, style, target audience. Animation-wise they can be compared, story-wise is just stupid.

I understand why they say it a moe hallmark but its not that all. K-On is an anime that more than it meets the eye. Anime smallmouth

As a Brit who has seen England depicted in numerous foreign media (sometimes rather badly), I have to ask - during the segments where the cast were in London, did it actually feel like the real London, or a bunch of British stereotypes crammed together?

When I saw the band at the Camden Town tube station in the trailer, I did let out a bit of a squeal at how it seems like the team behind the film did at least some research (with Camden Town being known for its music and alternative fashion).

Sucks how with Bandai going down, at the least, it's going to be a while before we see this *sigh*.

This movie positively bored me. But then again, I'm not a huge fan of moe so that's probably why I didn't enjoy it.

Like scineram said, K-ON! and SHNY are two completely different series, it doesn't make sense to compare to each other just because they’re by the same animation studio and are popular. That’s like comparing Harry Potter to the Twilight Saga just because they’re both popular book series that made into popular movie series.

How are you people watching this movie? It's not out on DVD/BD in Japan or anywhere else. I assume Ko watched it in the theatre? I also assume the guy above me hasn't seen the movie and is making things up?

I've never been to England, so I'm not exactly the best at recognizing the feeling of London, but KyoAni sure did their usual physical scouting with the landscapes drawn from actual, real life locations (including the hotel the girls stay at), as opposed to drawing what they guess London looks like.

And the English roles are played by English actors (I believe that a London recording studio was listed in the credits), so while the acting might not be the best everywhere, there's no broken English coming from non-Japanese characters.

Like myself, I expect you were mildly saddened to discover that Kyoto Animation had not acquired the rights to use TFL's typefaces in their rendition of the station.

For reference:

The disparity is somewhat glaring: where are the serifs?
