I thought so. It's a shame people still tried to argue this point in the previous news article: animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-02-09/sentai-filmworks-licenses-gintama-the-movie Now we have proof to show people who want to argue about their policy.

I will buy this although I didn't buy any of the TV releases.

Nice decision, Sentai. Hope the dub is as flavorful as it /needs/ to be.

So no Steve Foster screwing up the dub then? HAZZAH!

I do wonder how they'll translate the jokes though. I'm not sure if the movie was more serious than the TV series was during this arc, but if the tone is the same it'll be a challenge...

It's great to have confirmation. It's even better to see Kyle Jones back in the directing seat.

I was one of the people who suggested people not get their hopes up until it was confirmed. I just didn't want anyone to be disappointed should the title end up being sub-only. After all, it's rare for Sentai to not specifically state so in their PR these days.

It was a given since all BDs get dubs from Sentai, but yeah glad to see its confirmed.

How exactly do you "cofirm" something? I've heard of "confirm", but this new word perplexes me. Confused

I've never seen the TV series, but it always sounded cool. I might check this out since it'll have a dub. Hopefully I won't be too lost.

.....Oh yeah~ Laughing
ANN there's a typo in the headline! Anime hyper

Now I'm half-excited and half-nervous about the dub. Gintama has many jokes that won't be easy to translate into English. Also, I'm so used to Tomokazu Sugita as Gintoki that I can't think of any American VA to voice him. Same goes for the entire cast.

I'm still gonna buy the DVD and/or Blu-Ray no matter what though!!

I take the absence of Steven Foster to be a potential detriment to the dub. I've enjoyed some of the dubs that Kyle Jones has directed, but I have yet to be as impressed by his work as by that of Foster. Jones' list of self-directed works is also far, far, far shorter than that of Foster. Jones' biggest titles that he directed were also done fairly long ago. Do you want to entrust the dub of a large property to a relatively inexperienced director who hasn't done much directing in years (per ANN)?

Since you seem to be one of those anime fans who persists in raging against Stephen Foster without reason (as there can be no reason for the rage I see against him here) perhaps you might want to consider the choice of directors from this perspective: "Better the evil I know than the evil I don't". Wink

I don't see why there's concern over translating the jokes. Y'all laughed to the jokes when they were subbed, right? If you can see the humor through the awkwardness induced by not only cultural differences but subtitles (which present the content counter to the emotion conveyed by the seiyuu) then no dub can occlude their humor. Especially not a Sentai dub. Bang/Zoom might be able to do it, but mercifully they won't get the chance.
I'd even go so far as to say that the odds of making the jokes funnier in the dub are rather high, but my tastes are obviously different from the ANN majority. Thus, YMMV but I truly can't see the jokes being "less funny" dubbed.

I wonder if Sentai didn't mention the dub in its press release as so to be able to judge fan interest by the "quality and quantity" of the furor the ambiguity caused on places that can serve as fan sounding boards, like the ANN forums. Were we trolled by Sentai? Rolling Eyes

nice to see confirmation i would have pre ordered it even if it didn't get a dub but this is just icing on the already delicious cake. Very Happy as for the adr director...interesting the air gear dub was great and the air dub was decent so i have high hopes for this *crosses fingers for greg ayres as shinpachi and brina palencia or luci cristan as kagura*

Doesn't Brina Palencia work solely for Funimation?

She also is a host (not sure if she's the host though) for Gamestop TV. I would know this not just because she said this once on the That Anime Show Podcast, but also because one time a few weeks ago, I happen to walk into a Gamestop store and I happen to look up the TV in the store, and I happen to see Brina on the TV with her name on the bottom.

So we have a dub for the movie, where the series doesn't have one.

ADV is as ADV does; stupid.
