Nothing says quality filmmaking like those movies. Every time I see good action in films, I become more pessimistic about how awful they could have been in untalented people's hands. If someone like Tarantino actually stepped in direct, you know that he'd push for the gore, violence, and even the awkward sexuality of the OVA. And he'd get it, because he's Tarantino, pushing it right to the border of NC-17. Aside from lower quality of direction, I'm more afraid of this being pressured into PG-13.

I'm still holding out any reservation until I see movie trailers and see what it is rated.

Pretty much, if it ain't, at least, rated R, I'm not wasting my time, heh.

It's Kite, guys. If they make a terrible live-action movie based on a terrible anime OVA, will it matter?

I wonder if people will realize when they see live-action Sawa just how truly disturbing that anime was. I suppose they might age her up and cut out the gratuitous sex with the crooked cop, though.

Yes, we'll never get our 3 hour long reflective and somber toned 200 million dollar epic live action anime adaptations unless we start having some decent films that sell the idea to Hollywood and the consumer.

Sorry, I don't want to see AKIRA done on 30 million dollars. Dredd managed to squeeze a decent film out of that much, but it's not a sprawling massive story that requires massive sets and spectacle. Hunger Games sort of got by on 70 million because it took place in the goddamn woods for 80 minutes. I'm not even just talking about AKIRA alone here, but the buzz of live action anime adaptations has always big on the big sci-fi titles, which tend to look like absolute shit unless you have money. Basically, I want these to not become video game movies. All of those are shit. All of them. The highest rated one is Final Fantasy: Spirits Within. And Wreck-it Ralph doesn't count here, just like Tron doesn't.

Action and gratuitous sex aside, the disturbing relationship in Kite is what makes it stand out above Mezzo Forte. Removing that removes the soul of the story.

LMAO still cant believe their making a live action movie on this. I dont know shit about the plot I only watched it for the really explicit sex scenes. I wonder if the news is going to run any story's about this when it comes out.

I hope so, even negative press is still more attention, and they have no power or means to ban or censor anything. Then again, if it's just a watered-down mess of a low budget film, no one would bother seeking out the source material.

Ah HELLO??? ARE YOU BLIND OR ASLEEP??

This is Tarantino we're talking about here. Not Steven Spielberg.

It's gonna be R hands down and if he decides to do it ala the original manga creator,it could possibly get pushed to near borderline NC-17.

though i have my doubts it'll get that rating.if it does, it'll proabably be slightly edited to get the R and have the NC-17 stuff as director's cut for DVD and Blue Ray

This isn't Tarantino, I just said if it were, I wouldn't have any fears of the ultraviolence and discomforting sexual nature of the OVA being removed. My fears are that it's a lesser director who probably doesn't have the same kind of clout or authority to push for what he'd really wants. Hell, it was basically the opposite in why Kite and Mezzo Forte could have been made in the first place, they needed explicit sex scenes for funding.

There's no way in hell this film is gonna be good. I think a Mezzo Forte would have a lot more going on and a lot of fun, compared to turning Kite into a feature film.
