Sounds like a fun book. I wouldn't call Nikko a little known town though. I have not had a chance to go there myself but along with Kamakura it is pretty much the top day stop from Tokyo.
Anyways I think getting a bit off the beaten track when you go to Japan is a lot of fun. When I went to Kyoto I took a train to Otsu City to see Omi Jingu (featured in Chihayafuru). I actually wish I had more time there (and when I return to Japan I plan to go back) because the city has a lot of other nice temples and shrines that are not as crowded as the ones you go to in Kyoto. |

Something I want to stress is that few locations from Evangelion were based on specific, real-life locations. I mean just think about it: Tokyo-3 is a fictional city, built in the real-life Hakone region. So some of the skylines match up, mountain ranges and such, but otherwise "Nerv HQ" or "Misato's apartment" are where most of the show takes place, and are entirely fictional. The Train station is more or less a real-life train station, but it's been remodeled over the years. (And their Junior High School is sort of a composite of what the real-life Junior High and High Schools look like).
Elfen Lied, on the other hand....I've seen comparison photos: it's actually set in present-day Kamakura, so many of the locations are photo-realistic (many of the Buddhist shrines, the train station, the market, the beach, etc.). Particularly that long set of steps that feature in a few episodes (the Lucy vs Nana fight and the ending), it looks just like that in real life. |

The World Ends With You while not exactly an anime is centered in Shibuya. The whole game does in fact have a large amount, if not the whole district, as part of the game. I know they have a lot of landmarks there, like the statue of Hachiko and the Moayai statue (or however you spell it) and most of the more well known stores from the area, albeit with changed names.

I would say Japan is one of the beutifull country where lot of people love to travel and enjoy the holidays in good way.I have checked on the Hotel Booking Sites which also provides the best facilties according to their tradition as well.
