So happy to see the Michiko and Hatchin love. I've been an evangelist for the show for years. A couple years ago the general forum had a "cool character" tournament and my arguments (and a clip of the jailbreak) almost got Michiko to knock Roy Mustang out of contention.
But to be more accurate, Atsuko isn't Diana Ross, she's all Pam Grier, honey baby. |

I loved Michiko to Hatchin for the bulk of the series, and only liked the last few episodes. Still, that's far affection that most shows receive, and it was definitely a highlight of 2008.

I've heard nothing but good things about Michiko and Hatchin. Seeing Bamboo's review of it has influenced my decision to get it at some point.

Michiko & Hatchin is a really really fun ride. It's not the perfect story certainly, certain plot aspects are left vaguely dangling and some just dropped, but it's a story that's more about the journey than the details.
I'm hoping it sells well for Funimation, because they certainly could've passed on the show. (They had to wait for the license some other company had on the show to expire before they could put it out.) |

Pretty much summed up my thoughts on Michiko & Hatchin exactly. It's quite messy at times, but you got to love the characters, and that love lets you ride through the rocky bits.

Michiko & Hatchin was definitely worth purchasing. A friend wanted me to recommend a show for him to watch with his wife in an effort to get her to open up more to anime, and this was my immediate recommendation.

I'm disappointed to see that the blatant man-hating in Michiko e Hatchin was omitted from this review. I guess it could be said that it was all to justify the toxic, cynical witch that Hatchin is shown as being in the epilogue, but then the epilogue episode was entirely unnecessary and anticlimatic. Was it a puerile jab at the Y chromosome by the director? Was it a poorly-conceived, shoe-horned in psychological plot element? I could believe either, though considering that both reviews of this on ANN mention the poor plotting in this show I'm leaning towards the latter; "never attribute to malice that which can be explained by incompetence" and all.
Still though, the man-hate should be mentioned as the epilogue episode sucker-punches the viewer with it and it hits with all the force that it can muster. Interesting that Shelf Life recommends the Japanese dub due to its use of Japanese live-action actors while ANN's review of the BD from September 2013 criticizes the Japanese dub for that same reason. Any word on when Funimation will release Part 2 of Aquarion: EVOL? |

The first half of EVOL is definitely a solid show. Dare I say, it's better than Genesis's first half. Certain revelations after the first half kind of affected my overall thoughts on the show as a whole. I can still get some entertainment from it though however, mainly because of Zessica, Andy and Mix. (Seriously, why Andy and Mix weren't the main characters I have no idea. Instead, we get Team Useless.)
I'm hoping Funi does get the movie at some point spoiler[ given some events in the second half that tie more so with the film's events than the TV series like the whole Mykage deal. ] Last edited by Lynx Amali on Wed Jan 29, 2014 8:25 pm; edited 1 time in total |

Mikono was truly worst girl, handily demonstrated by how she ranked lower than background female characters in practically every poll. Zessica was clearly the most interesting of the bunch tied to Amata, but green never wins with Kawamori. |

Or you can start your own blog where your pet issues can be shoehorned in to everything you write and stop expecting others to do it for you. "Man-hate". The internet, ugh.
This is a great question and it also applies to racism and general stupidity. People think everyone is a clever troll just out to get'cha and nobody's actually that awful, which is sadly not the case. The internet is largely where you find out that yes, people are actually that awful. |

Michiko and Hatchin is one of those shows on my "doesn't need me to like it" list; For every plus someone can mention about it, I can tell you how they went about manipulating the setting, characters and story to do it.
So ... she's surrounded by crap men? I'm guessing? It should be possible by this time to do a story where we can have strong women face either other strong women or equally strong men {preferably both} without having to handicap the situation for the audience to favor the heroes. It's just not as easy. Just look at the truly admirable Madoko Kyono, which was misspelled as Kaname in the article for some reason. In order for the male audience not to be threatened {great!}, she was, how should I put it...
But only as subtext, though. If you want to see it that way. |
