I get the feeling the Chunibyo franchise isn't as big here as it might be because of the unavailability of the first season, which to this point has only been legally available via Anime Network (VOD and online) and Hulu. It's pretty odd having this second season on Crunchyroll while the first season isn't up there. IIRC, Theron was the only reviewer who covered Chunibyo for this winter's preview guide.

I'm not upset with Sentai's sub-only titles, but I am sick of buying them and a year or two later, Sentai announces that they are releasing Hybrids.
I recently bought Mayo Chiki over this last holiday season on DVD, a subbed only release. Almost right after the holiday season, Sentai announced that they were going to be doing a Hybrid release of Mayo Chiki. I hadn't even opened it yet because I have a backlog of anime I own to watch because I hadn't had time for the previous 6 months. The new Hybrid wasn't an exchange on a 1-1, but required an additional $15 for the DVD and $25 for the Blu-Ray. On top of that, I have to pay for the $3 shipping... Plus, this a almost a 2 year gap between these releases and I'd much rather have the Hybrid compared to the sub-only release because I have the option between the two. Not all subs and dubs are created equal. In a price standpoint, hybrids usually cost more to make, but are priced higher in the the primary and secondary markets (especially when the primary market dries up). Honestly, I just wish that Sentai would make up its mind on whether to release it sub-only or dub-only or hybrid only. I don't like it when they claim to have only 1 and then turn around a few years later with another release with another language track and charge more than what it originally cost the owners for their title. Sorry, I bought Mayo Chiki for about $18 and having to pay $18 more for a dub track isn't that appealing, but I'll probably still do it because I want the Blu-ray... If you ask me, Sentai seems unsure of the anime fanbase on this one. They either don't trust the fans enough to buy a hybrid release or they think that getting it out as fast as possible is best and deal with the fans at a later time, which they are slow on this one, considering it has been out in Japan for over a year now. I just think it is wasteful to make 2 releases and have 1 superior than the other in every way. What do you think happens to the sub-only releases when a hybrid version is released? You may upgrade, but then you have to wonder what Sentai does with them. Just a thought. |

I do not think a lack of dubs will necessary speed up the releases. If it is being released on BD, R1 distributors need to have approval from Japan. Speaking of that, Chuunibyou Season 1 probably took so long to be released because Sentai is including the OVA and shorts that came in the Japanese 7th volume, released on June of last year. |

unfortunately for those that are hoping the series might get an english dub, its very bad, cause this announcement guarantees these series will only have a sub only release which means an auto skip it for dub only otakus. |
