Well i would pretty much agree with this review except for one thing. I just dont understand the comparison between how the CGI is today compared to when it was released back in 98, well of course the series today are going to have far better CGI than blu 6 if u want a real good comparison try to compare it to Arpeggio that was released recently, i mean the anime is over 15 years old so of course it would not compete as much in today's anime it is to be expected.

I still love the anime tough, it is one of the few series that i can say were the ones who got me interested in the otaku culture, i remember fondly how i used to see the show back when it was airing on cartoon network it brings back so many memories, so it is one series that holds a special place for me, I would recommend to give the series at least a try before dismissing it, weather u like it or not is up to you but it defiantly deserves to be given a chance first.

Mutio is the best character in the show. It's quite a feat to make a non-human character with zero lines of dialogue the most interesting and likable of the entire story. She also gives me really awkward and confusing feelings in my pants...

I think the only thing really holding Blue Sub 6 back from being legitimately great is that it's maybe a little too ambitious. There's some lip-service about acceptance, and the cycle of violence, and living for tomorrow, but it all kinda gets lost in the truncated running time. It just ends up a jumble of mixed metaphors and cool actions setpieces. Its short length makes it easily worth the time investment, but it's a double-edged sword that ultimately tempers the intended impact of the story. I feel like even stretching the story out to a half-cour would have done wonders. Episodes 1 and 3 could have easily been double their length, and gone more in depth into Kino and Mutio respectively. We barely learn anything about the eponymous sub's crew, and very little about the world the characters begrudgingly live in. Ultimately, there's a lot really cool ideas in Blue Sub 6 that just don't have enough room to grow into their own.

Blue Sub No. 6 certainly was an interesting OAV. Verg was definitely one of the most memorable characters for me, and it took me a while to realize what he was too. I do have to agree the story did jump around from place to place to the point I wasn't following it very well. I think I need to watch this again.

I thoroughly enjoyed this OVA, and I think it should join Princess Mononoke as an anime that presents an environmental message in an interesting and non-preachy way (I normally can't stand "eco-entertainment"). And say what you will about how the CG has aged, those submarine battles are a blast to watch.

I believe I enjoyed the story itself more than Theron. I actually found Blue Sub 6's lack of a need to explain every aspect of the plot refreshing as a fan of sci-fi. The characters were both emotionally resonant for me and effective in representing different viewpoints on the issues being dealt with. Definitely a gem worth buying!

Also, shippers would hate this show, due to it having two possible romantic interests for main character Hayami, but focuses on their significance to the show's themes rather than pairing either of them off. Anime hyper

Yeah, I would have loved for it to be longer to delve into more of the stuff it works with.

The action was fantastic and I really liked Hayami, Kino, Mutio, and the Captain and first officer of the ship, as well as liked the brief appearances of the couple of crew members we briefly met like the special girl and two at the front and the other man who first arrived with Kino to bring Hayami in and would have liked to learn more about them. As said by others, Verg was pretty memorable as one of the primary villains and when you see what they are.

The sub action was awesome and still a lot of fun to watch.

I was really impressed by the video quality of this blu-ray. I owned and watched the original Bandai dvds, and they didn't look that good - everything was extremely murky, and the underwater scenes where much more difficult to follow. This blu-ray is a night and day difference from the original disks - everything is sharp and clear.

Although I must admit, I do miss the Toonami ads that where on the original DVD set, but I would much rather have the beautiful blu-ray that we got than the trailers.

Discotek says that they will be releasing an online-exclusive DVD containing the unedited dub sometime next year (they said that here: http://www.fandompost.com/oldforums/showthread.php?19332-Discotek-Media-licenses-Blue-Submarine-No-6/page11 ). That release will contain the same video as their current DVD (not Blu-ray) with the Japanese version w/English subs as well.

Apparently they weren't aware that their DVDs or Blu-rays contained the cleaner dub shown on Cartoon Network (with a few lines changed for censorship purposes). However, episode 4 on their existing releases is apparently the unedited dub. For some reason these happened to be the recordings that Bandai Visual had on hand.

Could very well buy it just for the sexy Range Murata awesomeness on the cover.

Yes, nothing will ever dampen my complete love for Mutio. I love her design and I love what she does.

Damn, I had though about upgrading my old Bandai DVD set to Blu-ray, but since the only version on Blu will be the mostly edited one then there is really no point is there.

^ They're only re-releasing the show on DVD.

And the Blu-ray's VIDEO isn't edited at all. Just the audio.

Wasn't aware that this is the edited version, so I guess I've never seen the original. What got changed in the audio? Foul language edited out, maybe?
