I love Nintendo, but whenever they put 'new' in the title I lose interest.

Of the several questions I had going through my head concerning the game design while playing this, the biggest was why on earth they decided to focus on incorporating more yoshi transformations.

Probably the most cumbersome, gimmicky aspect of the original game.

And they made it worse.

I thought the baby switching last time was a good indication they had nothing new to offer to the game, but this takes the cake.

Just re-re-release of the original on the Wii U.

Maybe Yoshi's Island is one of those games that you can't make a proper sequel to it no matter what. Look at Yoshi story for the N64.

Great review! I liked the style, and it communicated what's wrong with this game and Nintendo's current output in general. I was thinking about buying this - I love YOSHI'S ISLAND, and the DS game was fine but too hard - but this cinches it in the opposite direction.

Sad for Nintendo to be on this precarious state of matters.

Well, two thing, A) this game wasn't even developed by Nintendo, they used an outside development team, and B) precarious state of matters? In terms of quality, their most recent game before this, Donkey Kong Country TF, was top-notch (and the review pointed out Mario 3D World, Zelda: Link Between Worlds, and Pikmin 3 as excellent titles), and in terms of sales the 3DS is doing very well.

It's sad that Nintendo could once be counted on to deliver a different gaming experience. But as the review points out, it keeps churning out these subpar products like the New Mario Bros. entries and now this. Anyone who grew up with the word "Nintendo" being shorthand for "Videogames" in general can't help but mourn.

I feel you're being pretty melodramatic there Anton.

Nintendo has never heard a perfect track record.

And while I'm not defending the various circumstances and reasons that led to this mediocre attempt to cash in on genuine magic, it's not like people at Nintendo completely forgot how to make great games.

Just leave the cash ins and focus on the stuff they actually tried on.
