I would bet this is simply foreshadowing that a new red king will be chosen. I doubt Mikoto survived season 1

I want to watch this but I want to see the movie first, which takes place between season 1 and 2.

The Japanese import for the film with English subs is tempting me to not wait for the often unreliable, VIZ, on that one.

The new Red King is already chosen in the movie
