The animation quality looks very high, about Tamako Market high (TV & movie).

I love being able to follow an Ikuhara series as it airs and get new episodes of Durarara every week but honestly I can't wait for this next anime season.
I mean, Kinmoza Season 2 and a KyoAni show about girls playing jazz airing at the same time? Of course I'm excited. |

Minako Kotobuki was in K-ON which is why I find it appropriate that she's in this series.

I'm liking what I see. I hope it gets an early pick-up.

Super excited about this series... but one thing that's been bothering me. ANN keeps translating the band as a "brass band", but there are clearly saxophones and even a flute in the trailer so I suspected it wasn't just a "brass band" at all. I think 吹奏楽 really should be something more like "Wind Ensemble". I know sometimes "brass band" is shorthand for "brass and woodwind band" but since most of the characters play horns my first impression of the series was that they were a real brass band. Sorry, former music geek... but I'm even more excited now that I know they're a full band!
Translation aside, though... there's a girl with a contrabass, so are they a wind ensemble or an orchestra?? Make up your mind! |

"Concert band" would be a good translation as they preform in concerts. The contrabass is included in the possible instruments in a concert band, so there's no discourse in Sapphire playing one. |

I would say "WInd Ensemble" probably fits the bill here. A lot of wind ensembles have a contrabass or two. I'm pretty sure brass bands are full brass and percussion with maybe a contrabass and piccolo trumpets covering the high woodwind parts.
Also I am excited that there is an anime about band finally. Japanese bands are notoriously good; we had one come over in high school and they blew us out of the water. Our band was one of the top in the state too. Last year we even had the All-Japan High School Wind Orchestra come over featuring Eric Miyashiro as solo trumpet. They had only two days of rehearsal and they nailed everything. Lastly, as a clarinetist myself, now that we've seen a flute I am holding hope we see some clarinets! Just hope they don't have the mouthpiece upside down like some other anime if they are in there though. |

Think of just how rare it is that stringed instruments aren't the focus. Anyone else sick of violin, guitar, and piano?

Yeah, very happy to see one focused on brass and woodwind instruments for once. |
