Makoto Shinkai's The Place Promised in Our Early Days, which has been acquired for theatrical distribution by ADV, will be released on home video as well. This was the only licensing announcement made.
Original ADV properties are in various stages of progress. ADV is currently negotiating with a specific director on the live-action Neon Genesis Evangelion adaptation, while dialog recording for the Mutineer's Moon anime series will commence "fairly soon." On the other hand, any further developments related to Bubblegum Crisis 2041 are unlikely at this point and, according to David Williams, the project is in "pre-production hell." ADV is interested in releasing the Gekiganker 3 OVA, but needs to determine the best way to package and present the title. At one point, it was slated to be released with the Nadesico movie, but ADV was unable to do so at that time. The price point and two-per-volume episode count will hold throughout the release of the first season of Gantz, but may be revamped for the second season.
Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu will be appearing on The Anime Network over the summer. In general, an anime will be made available on TAN starting about a month before the street date of the first volume. There are definite plans for putting more subtitled anime on both the on-demand and linear versions of TAN. On the other hand, according to many cable providers, there is not yet a sufficient amount of demand for the TAN linear feed in most markets to make it feasible.
Future plans include eventual price drops on DVD volumes from around $29 to around $24, while episode counts will stay largely the same. ADV holds online distribution (pay-per-episode) rights on a number of titles, and this is a content delivery channel the company is keeping "very close watch" on.
The usual "can neither confirm nor deny" line was applied to Elfen Lied "episode 14" and the Kino's Journey movie. ADV definitely does not have the rights to the preview "episode 0" of Kino's Journey.
On the manga side of things, currently, the most popular manga title ADV publishes is Full Metal Panic!, closely followed by Azumanga Daioh. The long break between the first and second volumes of Gunslinger Girl is mostly due to delays with the original Japanese manga, but matching the release of the volume to the street date of the anime, which is being released in the U.S. by Funimation, was also a consideration.
Although expanding into videogame publishing has been considered, currently and in the near future, sufficient resources for such an expansion do not exist.
Finally, ADV's current top-selling anime is Hello Kitty Animation Theater.
