The original plan was for ADV to present a licensing announcements and previews panel on Friday, and follow that up with a Q&A session on Saturday. Unfortunately, David Williams was not cleared to announce any new licenses until after the Friday panel was already over. During the Saturday panel, however, he was able to confirm that ADV has licensed Jinki:Extend, and showed the subtitled version of the first episode. The two other titles he ran the completed first episodes of during the Friday panel were Nanaka 6/17 and This Ugly Yet Beautiful World.
The pattern for releasing thinpack box sets is changing to where one will be released at least a year after the last volume of any given series is out. This will take into account the fact that many fans are specifically interested in buying single volumes. At this point, thinpack releases for Gasaraki and Lost Universe are not likely; on the other hand, there is a “very good possibility” that the Elfen Lied OAV will be released, as soon as a decision is made as to how best to distribute a single 22-minute episode.
Makoto Shinkai, the director of Voices of a Distant Star and The Place Promised in Our Early Days is currently working on a new anime. At this point, there are no other details available as to the nature of this project.
Because, as James Cameron goes ahead with directing the live-action adaptation, he holds all rights to Battle Angel Alita, ADV will not be able to issue a DVD re-release. ADV has also released as much of Saint Seiya as they are able to, since their license was predicated on the DiC license for Knights of the Zodiac, which has now expired.
DirectTV and Dish Network are currently both looking at how popular The Anime Network is as a pay-per-view service, before committing to making it available as a linear feed. Certain bandwidth issues also need to be resolved before that can happen.
