Funimation panel

by Justin Sevakis,

Funimation's Sarah Sullivan started their panel with a slide celebrating the return of Toonami, and a reminder that Deadman Wonderland and Casshern Sins are both playing on the programming block, as well as Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. They also went over simulcasts, including the new show Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero.

Adam Sheehan then came out to continue the presentation and get the crowd cheering. He started with the Elite Video Subscription service on funimation.com, as well as the service's associated iOS and Android apps. The iPad and Android tablet versions of the app were released today, and a Roku app will be released in Mid-August. A Samsung SmartTV app is also in the works.

Other streaming/download services, such as Hulu, iTunes, Netflix, XBox Live and PSN were also promoted briefly. A new promo for FUNimation Channel was shown (highlighting Okami-san, Fairy Tail, The Legend of the Legendary Heroes, Shiki, Fractale, Tales of Vesperia, and several live action films).

Justin Rojas then came to the stage to talk about social media, including Facebook page, Twitter, Tumblr, YouTube and exclusive videos. He tweeted a picture of the audience and asked the audience to retweet it, and tag themselves in the photo on Facebook.

Next, promo clips of Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker, Tales of Vespiria, Hetalia: World Series, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, Fractale (the video of this one failed), One Piece Season 4 Part 1, Oblivion Island and Mass Effect: Paragon Lost were shown, along with an episode of "One Piece 101", a series of video clips designed to help new One Piece fans get into the long-running show.

In regards to Mass Effect, Funimation announced the original voice actor Freddie Prinze Jr. would be returning to his role from the games. The company's release schedule for August was reviewed.

Finally, the company briefly reviewed its new home video license announcements:

  • Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar OAV series (as well as the entire rest of the Tenchi Muyo! franchise)
  • Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine
  • Maken-Ki! Battling Venus
  • Sankarea
  • Space Battleship Yamato Resurrection
  • Fairy Tail season 2
  • Fairy Tail The Movie
  • Aquarion Evol
  • Akira (re-release)
  • One Piece TV Season 5
  • One Piece: The Movie: Strong World
  • Finally, the panel opened up the floor for questions.

This report has been verified by the panelists.
