Bengaluru Comic Con 2023
Anime and Manga Take Over Bengaluru Comic Con 2023

by Adriana Hazra,

The first Comic Con India event of this convention season kicked off on Friday with Crunchyroll as its "Powered by" partner. So it goes without saying that the company's booth Bengaluru Comic Con 2023 was one of the first to spring into action. The highlight of the booth was the replica of the SPY x FAMILY anime living room where fans could go undercover as member of the Forger family. It also gave away goodie bags as it quizzed fans on their anime prowess.

The Kodansha Comics by Manga Planet India booth gave out free copies of the first chapter of Terako Shima's India Calling Me Now (Ima, Indo ni Yobarete) manga. Shima attended the event from November 17 through November 19 and participated in live drawing sessions at the booth. She spoke at length about her artistic process in a live drawing session on stage.

Brittani Ginoza judged the Bengaluru Comic Con Cosplay Competition and Bengaluru Qualifiers for the Indian Championship Of Cosplay Competition. She gave her Indian fans an up-close look at her Samurai Mandalorian Cosplay at her booth and during her stage session.

The "IRL" livestreamers of Indian VTuber agency Project Starscape attended the event and posed for pictures with fans.

Comic Con wouldn't be Comic Con if fans couldn't get their fill of manga.

Booths across the convention hall had activities for anime and manga fans. Fujifilm Instax's booth asked fans to pose like their favorite anime characters in a memory game. Bewakoof had a spin to win game where you could win prizes like merch discounts or a free face painting session.

The 11th edition of Bengaluru Comic Con was the first time the event extended to three days instead of two. It had over 35,000 attendees celebrating the Indian graphic novel industry, the anime and manga industry, and pop culture in general. The massive success of the event even during a major sports event shows us what's in store for the rest of the convention season. The upcoming Comic Con India events will begin on the following dates:

  • Delhi Comic Con on December 8 at NSIC Grounds, Okhla
  • Hyderabad Comic Con on January 27 at Hitex
  • Chennai Comic Con on February 17 at Chennai Trade Centre
  • Mumbai Comic Con on April 20 at Jio World Centre, BKC
