Expense Tally

Invariably, the question of, "how much money should I bring to Japan?" always comes up with new travelers. While I'm not the richest kid on the block, I tend to think that I have pretty normal spending habits, so hopefully this running list of my expenses will help give you a ballpark figure of what kind of money you can expect to spend.

Day 1 & 2

  • Airport Limousine shuttle ticket from Narita to Keio Plaza Hotel - 3000JPY
  • Bottle of "toasted tea" at the airport - 180JPY
  • Iced milk green tea from vending machine at the airport - 120JPY
  • Beef and onion bowl from fast food restaurant in Shinjuku (+ free bowl of miso soup!) - 390 yen

    Day 3

  • Admission for first observation deck at Tokyo Tower - 840JPY
  • Admission for the second observation deck - 600JPY
  • Plastic replica of Tokyo Tower - 500JPY
  • Miscellaneous food items at the stalls in Asakusa - 150JPY + 370JPY + 100JPY + 100JPY
  • Beef bowl - 380JPY
  • Kaiten Sushi!!! +sake - 1480JPY

    Day 4

  • Onigiri and can of Boss coffee at convenience store- 120JPY + 147JPY
  • One-day JR pass - 730JPY
  • Delicious strawberry-chocolate crepe in Harajuku - 420JPY
  • Bowl of ramen at Jangara Ramen - 980JPY
  • Two trips to Animate - 2,672JPY + 2,782JPY
  • Two cans of vending machine ramen - 700JPY
  • Random capsule figures - 800JPY
  • Bottles of tea/juice from vending machines throughout the day - 150JPY + 150JPY + 120JPY
  • Ridiculous amount of baked goods from Hokuo Bakery - 945JPY

    Day 5

  • Subway fare to Tsukijishijo - 190JPY
  • Omakase set at Daiwa Sushi - 3,150JPY
  • Subway fare back - 190JPY
  • One-day JR pass - 730JPY
  • Admission to Ghibli Museum - 1,000JPY
  • Massive purchase at Kinokuniya Bakery in Mitaka - 735JPY
  • More vending machine purchases - 150JPY + 150JPY

    Day 6

  • Subway fare to and from Makuhari Messe - 420JPY
  • Melon bread from Hokuo - 136JPY
  • Miscellaneous JR fare - 400JPY
  • Plate of rice and curry with quail eggs - 780JPY
  • Tea and cake at coffee shop - 720JPY + 180JPY
  • Random souvenir at Donki Hote - 300JPY
  • Yakitori stand purchases - 2,100JPY
  • Massive amounts of candy and seasonal curry-flavored Pringles at convenience store - 957JPY

    Day 7

  • More baked goods! - 746JPY
  • Misc. JR fare - 320JPY
  • Misc. snack items and cans of Boss - 425JPY
  • Shuttle to Narita - 3,000JPY
  • Disgusting Tsukimi burger at McDs - ~780JPY (lost receipt... or obliviated memory)

Total: 36,485JPY ($317.70)
