Square Enix's Battle of Blades Smartphone Game Launches in Japan on Monday

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins

The official website for Square Enix's Battle of Blades smartphone game revealed on Friday that the game will launch in Japan on November 27. The game will have both a single player story and a four-on-four multiplayer mode.

The game's four-versus-four team multiplayer mode tasks teams with taking control of a map in three minutes by capturing nodes. Teams will also face boss battles with the "Darkness." The game's "A 180-second Hero Blaze" tagline emphasizes the game's three-minute time limit in multiplayer.

The game will also have a single player story mode. Fate/Apocrypha writer Yuichiro Higashide is writing the game's story. Players can customize the appearance of their character, as well as customize their abilities by using the mana board.

Square Enix previously teased the game with a countdown website that had a scrolling gallery of weapons from various other game franchises. These weapons are available as items in the game as part of the game's pre-registration campaign. The weapons include the Virtuous Contract from NieR:Automata, the Ice Sword and Left Hand Sword from Romancing SaGa, Ukom's Spear from Romancing SaGa Minstrel Song, the mana sword from Secret of Mana, the Salesman Glove from Legend of Mana, and the Mercenary Excalibur, Millionaire Excalibur, Thief Excalibur, and Diva Excalibur from Kairisei Million Arthur.
