Record of Lodoss War's 30th Anniversary Teased With Projects

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

An official website for a 30th anniversary project for Ryo Mizuno's Record of Lodoss War novel opened on Sunday. The project will include marathon streaming broadcasts of the Record of Lodoss War original video anime on April 10 and Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight television anime on Niconico Live on April 11-13.

Mizuno published the Record of Lodoss War: The Grey Witch novel with illustrations by Yutaka Izubuchi in 1988. Seven Seas Entertainment released the novel in English on December 19.

Record of Lodoss War began as a series of magazine articles that recounted the pencil-and-paper role-playing game sessions of players who called themselves Group SNE. Those fantasy adventures evolved into a series of novels by Ryo Mizuno that now have more than 10 million copies in print.

Mizuno's original Record of Lodoss War stories inspired the 1990 Record of Lodoss War video anime series and the 1998 Record of Lodoss War: Chronicles of the Heroic Knight television anime sequel. Funimation released both anime on DVD and Blu-ray Disc last July. Central Park Media previously licensed and released both fantasy titles in North America. Media Blasters had announced a license of both anime in 2010, but then revealed in 2012 that it would not be releasing the titles as planned.

The storyline more recently inspired a stage play that ran in Tokyo in January 2017.
