Maeil Business Newspaper: Amazon, EA, Comcast Bid on Game Developer Nexon

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

South Korea's Maeil Business Newspaper reported on Thursday that Amazon, EA, and Comcast are all bidding for the 98.64% controlling stake for South Korean game developer Nexon. Other bidders include South Korean tech companies Netmarble and Kakao, as well as some private-equity funds, including KKR, Bain Capital, and MBK Partners.

Nexon founder Kim Jung-ju announced in January that he is selling his 98.64% controlling stake to Nexon's holding company NXC Corp, valued at 10 trillion won (US$8.9 billion).

Nexon was founded in South Korea in 1994, but is headquartered in Tokyo, Japan. The company specializes in free-to-play mobile and online games, such as MapleStory, SINoALICE (pictured right), and the original Kemono Friends game.
