Trivia:

In Episode 1, Gintoki is dressed in a manner similar to Yamcha from Dragon Ball Z.

In episode 42, when a screen of a depressed editor turned otaku shows up, many parodies of anime/pop culture characters can be seen. The one with the octopus is a reference to Ika Musume (Squid Girl), the purple haired girl is a reference to Miku Hatsune (Vocaloid), and the girl with the duck/Elizabeth hat is a reference to Himari (Mawaru Penguindrum). Before his scream is cut off, he says "Seizon Senryaku!" (Survival Strategy), also known as one of the biggest catchphrases in Mawaru Penguindrum.

In episode 42, Gin and his prisoner friend introduce their manga team as Akurugi Musai. This is a pun off of the manga team, Ashirogi Muto in Bakuman.

In episode 47, the whole episode is a parody of the film "Slum Dog Millionare".

In episode 47, the scene where the teacher and students are trying to decide whether to eat the class pet "Puu-chan" or not is a parody of the Japanese film, "Buta ga Ita Kyoushitsu" ("The Classroom With a Pig"). In the original film, the class has a project to keep a pig named P-Chan and eat him at the end of the year as a lesson to respect life. However, the class has a debate on whether to keep the pig alive or send him to the meat center as the year comes to a close.
