Trivia:

The character design of Shigeo Nasuda is based on Dr. Makio Mukai, who is the husband of the first Japanese woman in space, Chiaki Mukai. His name is a play on NASDA, the predecessor to JAXA.

In chapter 58 and chapter 59 the anime pay homage to the movie 'October Sky', albeit with a more simple story setting.
