Trivia:

Kanuka Clancy is named after best-selling espionage/counter-terrorism novelist Tom Clancy. 

Through out series, you notice some "unusual" brand or name on a soda or an airline company even clothing (mostly jackets). It leads to the name of both of the creators and producers of Patlabor—SUNRISE & Headgear!

In episode 10 there is a plane named Lovely Angel, and shortly after that you can clearly see the Dirty Pair themselves standing on a sidewalk. ("The Lovely Angels" is the Dirty Pair's official code name.)

In episode 16 one of the ice statues in a display is Mughi the giant cat-like creature from Dirty Pair.

In episode 34, around 4:26, a Labor calls its attack "Jet Stream Attack". This is a reference to the attack used by the Black Tri-Stars from Mobile Suit Gundam

The basis of Shigeo's dream in episode 44, "CLAT Forever", seems to be from the popular Gerry Anderson hit Captain Scarlet. From the character/costume design, naming the patlabors collectively as 'angels' and even the use of the SPV as the support vehicle.

In episode 44, Cardinals Ximénez, Biggles, and Fang—from Monty Python's "The Spanish Inquisition" sketches—thrice walk across the screen.

In episode 44, around 3:03, the manga Shige is holding features the main characters from "Dirty Pair" who have made previous cameo's in the series.
