Gokigenyou

: 【ごきげんよう】
Literally "(I wish) you stay feeling happy."

A colloquial, very formal, feminine greeting used in areas such as Kyoto and Osaka. Gokigenyou is used both to say "hello" and "goodbye," much the way "good day" and "good evening" are used in English.

Gokigenyou is commonly used by older people to greet one-another, and it is the official greeting used by girls, when meeting each other, in some private girls schools such as St. Joseph Academy.

In anime and manga, Gokigenyou is most commonly heard in the private girls' school setting, in stories such as Maria-sama ga Miteru (MariMite's official website is gokigenyou.com.)
