Plot Summary: In an alternate 2022, humans are under threat from a strange race of monsters from a parallel world. The beasts, called kaiju, break through the walls between the worlds and can only be driven away by soldiers known as bulwarks, who use an inherited power to defeat the monsters. Yorino and her best friend Haruka have trained from elementary school on to become bulwarks, but when Haruka is killed before their missions even start, Yorino is at a loss. She decides to become a bulwark anyway in order to avenge her friend, but the more she learns about what's going on, the less sure she is that she's made the right call.
