Japanese Rocker Hyde Plays Himself in Bakuman

posted on by Egan Loo
L'Arc-en-Ciel/Vamps band member also rewrites "Get up" in Japanese for anime

The Japanese rock musician HYDE recorded his voice-acting debut on Monday for the television anime series Bakuman. In the anime, HYDE plays himself. The anime adapts the manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata (Death Note) about two aspiring manga creators in high school. In the story, HYDE is the producer for an artist named Koogy, who is voiced by Showtaro Morikubo.

In addition, Morikubo (as Koogy) sang a Japanese version of the English song "Get up" from HYDE's band Vamps. HYDE wrote new Japanese lyrics for the song, which has been used in the anime from the fifth episode onward.

HYDE contributed to the soundtracks of DNA², Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, Fullmetal Alchemist, Great Teacher Onizuka, Mobile Suit Gundam 00, Moribito - Guardian of the Spirit, and Rurouni Kenshin as part of the rock band L'Arc-en-Ciel.
