Zetsubō's Kumeta Illustrates Moshidora Author's New Novel

In Ace no Keifu, teacher strives to take listless baseball club to nationals

Natsumi Iwasaki, the creator of last year's 2.2-million-copy hit novel Moshi Kōkō Yakyū no Joshi Manager ga Drucker no "Management" o Yondara (Moshidora) and this year's anime adaptation, is releasing a new novel called Ace no Keifu (Ace's Lineage) with illustrations by Kôji Kumeta (Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei) on March 17.

The story is set in a high school that has no baseball team — just a baseball club where no one even bothers to practice. A new teacher has been assigned to supervise the club, and the teacher resolves to transform the club into a real team and "take this team to [the national school baseball tournament at] Kōshien. No matter how many years it takes."

The Moshidora anime (pictured at right) happens to be debuting on March 14, three days before Ace no Keifu's release. AKB48 idol singer Atsuko Maeda will star in a live-action Moshidora film in June. Kumeta's Katteni Kaizō gag manga is getting an anime adaptation from Shaft, the studio that also produced the Sayonara Zetsubō Sensei anime.
