Shinryaku!? Ika Musume comedy anime to premiere on September 26

The voice actress group Sphere will perform the opening theme song "High Powered" for Shinryaku!? Ika Musume, the second Squid Girl television anime season which will premiere on September 26. The anime departments of the retailers HMV and Tower Records reported on the announcement from the group's "Athletic Harmonies -Dangerous Stage-" event on Saturday. The four members — Minako Kotobuki, Ayahi Takagaki, Haruka Tomatsu, and Aki Toyosaki — collectively sang theme songs for Hatsukoi Limited, Sora no Manimani, Asobi ni Iku yo!, Otome Yōkai Zakuro, Hana-Saku Iroha, and other projects.

The official Twitter account for the anime also announced on Saturday that the voice of Ika Musume (Squid Girl) herself, Hisako Kanemoto, will sing the ending theme song.

Based on Masahiro Anbe's manga, the anime follows the story of Squid Girl, who comes out of the sea to make humanity pay for polluting the ocean. However, two pushy girls force her to work at a restaurant to produce squid ink. Squid Girl must overcome the bossy waitresses before she can complete her goal of conquering humankind.

The first season premiered last October, and Crunchyroll streamed that season into several countries as it aired in Japan. Media Blasters will ship the first season on DVD in North America on September 27.
