Masaharu Fukuyama to mark 100th year before time-travelling cat's 2112 birth

Masaharu Fukuyama, the male solo artist with the most music sales in Japan, announced on Sunday that he will perform the theme song for next year's Doraemon film, Doraemon: Nobita to Kiseki no Shima ~Animal Adventure~. Fukuyama made the announcement before 20,000 fans at the Saitama Super Arena during the final concert in his "Fukuyama Masaharu We're Bros. Tour 2011 The Live Bang!!" tour. During the concert's encore, Fukuyama came back on stage with the robot cat Doraemon, Doraemon's owner Nobita, and Nobita's female friend Shizuka to break the news.

Doraemon: Nobita to Kiseki no Shima ~Animal Adventure~ (Doraemon: Nobita and the Island of Miracles ~Animal Adventure~) will open on March 3. The story takes Doraemon, Nobita, and their friends to an island paradise full of animals that would have gone extinct.

The song will be Fukuyama's first musical collaboration on an anime, although he voice-acted as himself for a special guest appearance on a Doraemon television special in February. Masaharu Fukuyama's tour ended on Sunday after selling 600,000 tickets in 56 concerts at nine cities.

2012 happens to be the 100th year before the birth of Doraemon. In the story, the time-travelling robot cat was created on September 3, 2112.
