Rock Band Chatmonchy Performs Themae Romae Anime's Theme

The all-female Japanese band chatmonchy is performing the theme song for the Thermae Romae television anime series. The song, titled "Thermae Roman," will be released as a single on February 8. The band previously performed the opening theme song for Princess Jellyfish and ending themes for the Bleach and Hataraki Man anime.
Chatmonchy drummer Kumiko Takahashi left the group at the end of September. Takahashi's fellow performers are vocalist/guitarist Eriko Hashimoto and bassist Akiko Fukuoka, and the two are continuing the band as a duo. The band performed in New York, California, and Texas in 2010.
The television anime adaptation of Mari Yamazaki's Thermae Romae comedy manga will run for three weekly episodes on Fuji TV's Noitamina block starting on January 12 at 24:45 (effectively January 13 at 12:45 a.m.). Azuma Tani (Haiyoru! Nyaruani: Remember My Mr. Lovecraft, Honto ni Atta! Reibai-Sensei) is directing Noitamina's first Flash anime (and Noitamina's first three-episode series) at DLE Inc. (Eagle Talon). Eagle Talon creator Frogman is serving as executive director.
Thermae Romae is a comedy about Lucius — an architect of public bath houses (thermae) in ancient Rome — who time-travels to various modern-day baths in Japan. Through manga and essay passages, Yamazaki explores the two cultures in the world "that have loved baths the most: the Japanese and the Romans!" Yamazaki launched the manga in 2008, and the third compiled book volume shipped on April 25. A separate live-action film adaptation will open on April 28, 2012.
