Akira's Otomo Releases 2nd Kaba Artbook 22 Years Later

posted on by Egan Loo
Kaba2 to feature Akira, Steamboy, Batman comic, Freedom, Gundam short, Cannon Fodder picture book

The Japanese publisher Kodansha will release manga/anime creator Katsuhiro Ōtomo's Kaba2 artbook next month — over 22 years after the first Kaba artbook. Kodansha published the first Kaba book in September of 1989, just one year after the Akira anime film opened in Japan.

Kaba2 will feature illustrations from Otomo's manga and anime Akira as well as his Steamboy anime film. It will also have production designs and storyboards from his comic titles Batman The Third Mask and Orbital Era, as well as from his Roujin Z anime video, "Gundam: Mission to the Rise" CG short, and Freedom video anime series. Other materials include road bike illustrations, production materials and storyboards for the TBS Kōrakuen Yūenchi television commercial, and original New Year's Card zodiac art.

Finally, Otomo is penning a 32-page Taihō no Machi Ehon (Cannon Fodder/"Cannon Town" Picture Book) for Kaba2. Cannon Fodder was the short that Otomo wrote and directed for his Memories anthology film.

The hardcover Kaba2 book will have 204 pages and cost 6,825 yen (about US$87.35, tax included).
