The Japanese anime news website Anime Anime Biz posted a list of the top 10 anime business news stories of 2011. The list is as follows:

  1. The suspension of many events after the March 11 Great Eastern Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster.
  2. Kadokawa Group Holdings' acquisition of manga publisher Media Factory.
  3. The anime studio MADHOUSE becoming a subsidiary of the Japanese broadcasting company NTV.
  4. TV Tokyo's launch of the simultaneous distribution of anime in China, including works such as Naruto Shippūden, Gintama, and Squid Girl.
  5. The success of original anime series.
  6. Navarre's sale of Funimation to a group of investors that included Gen Fukunaga, Funimation's CEO.
  7. IMA Group's investment in Studio DEEN.
  8. The establishment of Ultra Super Pictures as a joint holding company for the anime studios Sanzigen, Ordet, and Trigger.
  9. The success of the live distribution of both anime series and anime-related events.
  10. Warner Entertainment Japan becoming directly involved in the television anime production industry.
