The Japanese news source Nikkei is reporting on Friday that Kazuo "Kaz" Hirai will be promoted to president of Sony Corporation in April 2012. Hirai currently serves as the executive vice-president and representative corporate executive officer of the company. Sony's current president, Howard Stringer, will step down from the position. Stringer will still remain Sony's chairman and chief executive officer.

Hirai was originally promoted to vice president in April of this year. He began his career at CBS/Sony Inc. (now Sony Music Entertainment Japan) in 1984.
