Handmade My Neighbor Totoro Chopstick Rests Sold

posted on by Joseph First
Four varieties include large, medium, small Totoro and soot sprite characters

The character goods maker MOVIC is accepting pre-orders for hand-crafted chopstick rests inspired by Studio Ghibli's My Neighbor Totoro anime film. The rests will be made in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, a town well-known for its pottery and stoneware called Shigaraki ware.

The four varieties of chopstick rests include a brown Totoro (5.5 centimeters / 2.2 inches long), a blue Totoro (5 centimeters / 2 inches long), a white Totoro sitting on an acorn (4.6 centimeters / 1.8 inches long), and a Makkuro Kurosuke (soot sprite; 3.7 centimeters / 1.5 inches long) with the corn that Mei and Satsuki give to their mother. Because each rest is handmade, size, shape and color may vary slightly from piece to piece.

The two larger Totoro pieces cost 735 yen (about US$10) while the small Totoro and Makkuro Kurosuke rests cost 683 yen (about US$9). MOVIC will ship the My Neighbor Totoro chopstick rests in early February.
