Goo Poll: Which 90s Shōjo Manga to Remake as Live-Action

posted on by Jennifer Sherman

From November 25 to 26, the Japanese portal site goo asked its users which 1990s shōjo manga they think should receive a live-action adaptation. Ai Yazawa's Gokinjo Monogatari and Tenshi Nanka ja Nai and Wataru Yoshizumi's Marmalade Boy topped the list of 46 manga series. The scores for the results are weighted relative to the top vote-getter.

Among 1,074 respondents, the top 20 choices are as follows:

Rank Title Comparative Score
1 Gokinjo Monogatari 100
2 Tenshi Nanka ja Nai 88.7
3 Marmalade Boy 85.8
4 Baby & Me 75.5
5 Fruits Basket 56.6
6 Peach Girl 48.1
7 Kodocha - Sana's Stage 41.5
8 Please Save My Earth 38.7
9 Cardcaptor Sakura 35.8
10 Hime-chan no Ribon 32.1
11 Azuki-chan 31.1
11 Kamikaze Kaitō Jeanne 31.1
13 Good Morning Call 27.4
13 Revolutionary Girl Utena 27.4
15 Magic Knight Rayearth 25.5
15 Akazukin Cha Cha 25.5
17 Saint Tail 24.5
18 Miracle Girls 20.8
18 Mint na Bokura 20.8
20 Medaka no Gakkō 17.0

Last September, goo posted the results for a poll that asked users which live-action adaptations of manga or anime titles they liked, and Death Note topped the list. The market research firm Oricon also conducted a survey in 2011 to determine which manga respondents thought received successful live-action adaptations. Nodame Cantabile, Hana Yori Dango, and Jin were the top three choices. The Japanese portal site Cobs Online conducted a similar poll, asking users which manga should not be made into live-action films. One Piece received a majority of votes in that poll.
