Blood+'s Fujisaku, Saber Marionette Artist Make Tsukare Runa Novel

Jun'ichi Fujisaku, the director of Blood+ and a writer on such anime as Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and xxxHOLiC the Movie, is writing a novel titled Tsukare Runa! (Possessed Runa!) Tsukasa Kotobuki illustrated the original Saber Marionette novels before doing the same for this new novel from T.O Entertainment, Inc.
The "avant-garde ghost mystery" centers around Runa, an underground idol who performs in Akihabara — the Tokyo district better known for being the home for another group of idols, AKB48. Runa solves cases with the powers of 49 ghosts that have possessed her.
Fujisaku is part of "Oshii Juku," the creators whom Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, The Sky Crawlers) assembled at the anime studio Production I.G to develop projects. Fujisaku helped conceive the Blood: The Last Vampire film, and he would later serve as director and head writer of the Blood+ television series.
Fujisaku later directed Loups=Garous - The Motion Picture and wrote on the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Blood-C, Appleseed XIII, The Beast Player Erin, Moshidora, and xxxHOLiC the Movie: A Midsummer Night's Dream anime projects. He also penned the novel spinoffs for Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Blood: The Last Vampire, and Blood-C.
In addition to Saber Marionette J and its various novel and anime spinoffs, Kotobuki designed the characters in the Cyberteam in Akihabara anime and the Tōshinden games. He drew manga based on Ragnarok, Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, and other projects.
Production I.G took the unusual step of promoting the book on its website on Friday. T.O Entertainment (Baka and Test - Summon the Beasts, Dragon Age: Dawn of the Seeker, Polyphonica) will publish the novel under its T.O Books imprint in April.
