Project seeks to crowd-source footage of Japan on anniversary of earthquake

Fuji Television announced on Monday that it will join with director Ridley Scott's production company Scott Free to create a documentary based on footage submitted by individuals. The project, entitled Japan In A Day, seeks to chronicle 24 hours in Japan on March 11, 2012, the one-year anniversary of the Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami.

Fuji Television is asking for contributions from anyone in Japan and around the world to record a video about their daily life on March 11, and submit it to a special YouTube "Japan in a Day" website. The network will also donate 200 video cameras to the region affected by the disaster. The final documentary will be comprised of footage from the donated cameras, as well as submitted video and footage from Fuji TV's camera crews.

The final film is planned for theatrical release, and the producers plan to donate the proceeds to charity.
