Uekiloid Video Revives Hitoshi Ueki's Music Career After Death

posted on by Ko Ransom
New Vocaloid package is first to synthesize deceased person's voice; CD planned for this summer

A video of "Uekiloid," a synthesized voice software package of the Japanese actor, singer, and comedian Hitoshi Ueki created using the Vocaloid software, was revealed at the "Cho-Techno School" area of last weekend's Nico Nico Chōkaigi event. Ueki, who received Japans Medal with Purple Ribbon honor in 1993 and the 4th Class Order of the Rising Sun in 1999, died in 2007 at the age of 80. Uekiloid marks the first usage of the Vocaloid voice synthesis software to recreate a deceased person's voice.

At the event, composer Hideki Matsutake revealed a video featuring a 3D CG rendition of Ueki voiced by the Uekiloid software. It was also announced during the event that there are plans to release a CD of Uekiloid music this summer.
